Any VSG guys out there?
Hey guys, I have read so many blogs about the VSG but not many from men. I'm 45 with a lower BMI of 36 and considering the VSG. Have you had a VSG or considering it? Like most men my main weight is in my gut. I'd love to not have to exhale to tie my shoes. You guys know what I mean....!
I'm curious how it worked for you. I am a unfortunate self payer whose insurance excludes WLS.
Thanks!

I had my sleeve 3 months ago and am loving it. The VSG forum (like most on here) is full of women and their stories. But, rest assured, the VSG offers the same restriction for us as them.
You can check out my blog on here, or my old posts if you want to find out more about how I'm dealing with my sleeve...and how I can now tie my shoes.

Thanks Chad, I will read through your blogs. I find myself reading dozens over the weekends. Most have been very positive. Not sure why but I just found the "mens" forum today. Most of my reading have been female blogs. Not that it has not been very helpful because it has been! Just wanted to see there are more men out there doing this too.
Thanks Chad!
Thanks Chad!
I had the VSG in Vegas in December and haven't regretted it. I am from Canada and self payed. The RNY scared me due to possible malabsorption issues (my mother died in 2001 due to complications of her bypass in the 1980's - different now I know) and the band seems like a waste of time if you're having surgery.
I just past 8 weeks post-op and the weight loss has slowed which is frustrating but I think normal from what I have read. Keeping your protein, fiber and fluids up is tough but doable. I have lots of weight to lose so patience is my biggest hurdle at the moment.
Lots to consider so take your time. I can now tie my shoes without losing my lunch and cross my legs comfortablely. Small victories!
Any questions arise, just ask. Good luck!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I met with my primary this morning and broke the news to him and to my absolute surpirse he supports it 100%. So that made me feel much better let me tell you. I expected to get a earful of "don't do it" when I brought it up.
A couple things that I think about is currently I have such a LOVE for food. It basically runs my life right now. After a VSG when you can hardly eat do you find yourself depressed because you want to eat and you can't?
How about recovery? Painful, difficult? How long before you could start eating normal food?

I had the vsg almost a year ago. I'm loving it. I can eat what ever I want. Just in smaller portions than I used to.
I thought I would miss the food. But I don't as the little that I eat satisfies me.
I sent you a friend request. You can check out my blogs as I recorded many of my experiences and thoughts.
Mileage varies on pain and recovery. Mine was text book. I had no pain post op. I didn't take any pain meds after surgery. I felt like I could have went back to work in a week. But Ihad the time and took a month.
