Why do men have WLS

I think this was an interesting topic of conversation, on my preop post Paul C posted:

"For what it is worth most men approach these types decisions with quite a different mindset. I think you will find very few men on this board that had or is going to have their procedure to simply get skinny or look good. If you read carefully most men are here doing this to improve their life and enjoy things they never had before."

Do you agree with this or not?

I have to say that I think most people (women included) have WLS to improve their health, but that at the same time both men and women have an equal desire to look thin at the end. I don't think it's only for health or only for looks that people undergo WLS but it's a combination of both.

Yes we understand you now Nate, if it doesn't have to do with fart humor it's above your head. Got it...you can feel free to ignore my future posts if they strain your wittle mind.

I will gladly ignore you .... the fear is that your crap takes away from a strong, caring group of guys who are trying to help each other not argue about who has the biggest ***** or the best surgery. I'm done now so continue on your rants , I have figured out in life that when I argue with morons nobody wins.

So even talking about why we had WLS is argumentative?

It is all about being able to be around for a long time for those I love. Looking good and being active again are a part of it. But my main motivation is giving myself a tool to become healthier.

My first thought was having it done to get a better job thinking that being fat was keeping me from getting promoted or hired.  Little did I know what I was going to be in for.  Not enough research on my part.  Held to my choice in surgeon since he was recommended by my cardiologist.  Nearly three years out, maintaining a 160 pound loss, wearing size 34 uniform pants and medium shirts BUT- It has been one hell of a fu**ing ride!  Yes, I'm healthier, and smaller, than I was.  Yes, I'm back to work but have gone through a divorce, moving away from then moving back to TX.  At least a 100 job rejections and all the wear and tear that job hunting will put on a person in the last three years.  Now that a lot of things have settled out for me life is looking better.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

I had thought about WLS for a year or so before I had mine.  I had two health insurance policies...both excluded WLS.  One day I went to my cardiologist...He said I have congestive heart failure.  He in some ways was pronouncing a death sentence on me...I had an ejection/fraction rate (how hard your heart pumps out) of 35%...normal is 45-50%.  I said is there anything I can do??  He said not really, but losing weight may help.  I pushed hard and quickly to get my RNY...Knowing time was not on my side.  I paid $23,000. cash and got it done...Have not looked back.  My ejection/fraction rate got up to 59% and of last year was at 50%...still normal.  I did it to live...but have gotten so many other benifits from it.  Brian
