I want to thank all of you who have supported me emotionally through this time and I also want to thank all of you who have prayed for us.  Of course, she's not being paid what she had on her last job, but the job does have a  benefit package.  The commute is less than 30 minutes-- the shortest commute she's had in almost 2 decades.  Yeah!  Bob

Great news on the job!

My wife was a Real Estate agent and when the economy tanked her income stopped. She fought it for nearly a year, but the fees were just too much. Also, the worked about twice as hard and drove twice as many miles as the prior year, but didn't have much success. She showed a lot of houses and had lots of people that wanted to buy, but getting a mortgage loan without near-perfect credit is a very tall hill.

So, she decided to go inactive, it has been an adjustment in our lifestyle to live on my income alone.

Bob, that's great news, and I'm sure it's a HUGE relief to both of you.  Congratulations to her.  And we'll keep both of you in our prayers and thoughts, as always.  First couple of weeks on a new job are always stressful.

I bet you're going to miss having your wife around the house during the day, though!  Be careful that you don't react to the loneliness by reverting to old patterns.  If you know it could be coming, you can head it off at the pass...

When my wife was out of town (about 3 of the last 5 weeks), as soon as I would start feeling "blue" about it, I would make myself get up and go for a walk with the dogs (or just play with them), jump on the Nordic Trac, or do something active to get my mind off it.  Otherwise, I started craving "comfort food" - never a good thing.  I'd say I was about 95% sucessful, and the one time I gave it a little it was at least a high-protein snack (pimento cheese on melba toast rounds).  Amazingly enough, I wound up actually being under my calorie total for that day, probably because I was very conscious of it the rest of the day.

Funny, we can think we've whipped our bodies into better shape, and re-channelled our old impulses and habits, but when something hits us emotionally, those old cravings and "hungers" return with a vengeance.  You have to stay ever alert and vigilant, and nip it in the bud, so to speak, before they become overwhelming.

Congratulations, again - we're all very happy for both of you!

I just wanted to mention that my wife's "employer" has a sweet deal going for himself.  My wife doesn't work for him;  rather, she is an independent contractor doing work for him at a set rate per hour.  She gets no paid lunch.  I'm a little fuzzy about vacation time.  Basically, if she doesn't work, she doesn't get paid.  So, they can have flexibility with her work schedule.  She can work up to 40 hours per week and she will participate in profit sharing.

You know I have my anxieties and it would be an understatement to call me a pessimist.  I think this whole arrangement is a little bit strange.  The employer has found a way around most labor laws.  We are going to have to see a CPA and possibly an attorney to set this all up.

Then, again, this is the only job offer my wife has rec'd in two years.  Bob
