Band Slipped???

For about the last 2 weeks 90% of what I eat (including liquids) gets stuck and ends up coming back up. I also have had reflux almost all day long in addition to significant pain in the area of my port. Has anyone else had any symptoms like these?? If so what was the outcome? I'm going for a abdominal ct scan in the morning and a barium swollow on Friday, but the Dr said he wont have any results till next Monday. Thanks for any input you guys may have.

I'm sorry you're having problems, but I think you're doing the right thing in following up with your doctor.  Since I had the RNY, I'm not really up on all the band issues, so I can't offer any other advice.  Hope they find the problem quickly, and that there is a simple (and inexpensive) "fix" for it.  Good luck with your CT tomorrow!

Thanks Jim,  My ct went fine now I have to wait and do a barium swallow on Friday. Unfortunately, I'm not gonna have any results till Monday. I hope they find something soon. I'm getting really lethargic and headaches from what I'm assuming is not being able to keep anything down for this long. As far as a fix goes, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have 3 options. Either have the band fixed , take it out completely or convert to bypass. After ALOT of thought I have decided that if those are my options I'm going to convert to bypass.

There's a fourth option - VSG. - No bypass involved, strictly restrictive.

So sorry you haven't got final results and will have to wait until Monday. That would drive me nuts!!

Hope they get to the bottom of this because it sounds like something is seriously wrong. Being lethargic and having the headaches are no picnic. Hang in there and best of luck.

BTW, Jim's response on getting educated on all options is very sage. Have some serious talks with your Doctor and rely on the professional opinions.

Revision from band to RNY seems to be pretty common, if you read this board.  There are a lot of other options available for revisions, but what your insurance will pay for may be a consideration.  At least, it would be for me.

You probably owe it to yourself to investigate at least the "big three" options (VSG, RNY, and DS), if only to be able to answer the "evangelists" who believe their surgery of choice is the only viable procedure for everyone.  We should educate ourselves about ALL the options, discuss with a WLS-knowledgeable physician, and then make an informed choice.  This board is a great resource to get started on that research.  There are "experts" on all the procedures on this site (along with a lot of people like me, whose only experience is with our OWN surgery, and we think it's GREAT!).  As always with the Internet, you get at least what you pay for...  And sometimes you even get really GOOD advice.  Most of the guys on this board fall into that latter category.  (Then there's me...  ;-)

Good luck to you.  Here's hoping for the best possible results for you on Monday!

Thanks for all the advice Jim.  I'm gonna meet with my Dr and discuss my options after the test results come back. From the research I've done so far, I'm leaning towards RnY. I have a barium swallow in the morning. Hopefully I'll be able to keep the liquid down long enough to complete the test. I'll keep you posted.

Well, I had me swallow this morning. The Dr liquids are just barely dribbling by my band. Whaich he cant explain why because my band is completely empty. I'm meeting with him monday morning to discuss surgery options to deal with it.  Thanks to everyone for all your support.

Thats where the problem comes in. My band has been completely empty for about 6 months now. Thats why they are confused why this is happening.
