Help! Protein Alternatives???

Guys, back when I started this adventure I loved my daily protein shakes. The chocolate whey protein powder I got from Walmart tasted like a chocolate milkshake to me (even though it was blended with water and ice).

Now I can't get down a whey protein shake anymore. I moved from the cheapie walmart brand to the more expensive "Gladiator" powder you get from Smoothie King. Still can't get them down. The second my pallet gets the "whey" taste, I want to barf. I've tried all kinds of mixes and flavor syrups but no help.  I started substituting more eggs, chicken, and fish to my daily menu but not even coming close to getting in 80-90g of protein in a day.

Any help here would be appreciated.  I thinking about trying Unjury powder but hate to waste the bucks if I'm going to dump it as well.

Try blending in a banana with your shake.. That kills the "whey" taste for me..
more than any flavoured syrups do.

My best solution is for you to look up www.bariatricfoodie.blogspot.com .  They are constantly adding and/or updating recipes.  You can sign up for their newsletter:  I did but I'm starting to think it is more info than I can absorb.  You can look at the archived recipes and get any or all of them without getting the newsletter.  You can still click on a link for any of the recipes and get a logical step by step recipe usually accompanied with full color photos.

Have you tried the shake with milk?  Also you may want to graduate to Wendy's Chili...I add cheese to mine.  Good stuff!!  Other things in no special order; cottage cheese, yogurt, plain nuts, crock pot stews (beef or chicken with tons of vegetables...even add wine), protein bar at the health food store, Taco Bell's Beans and Cheese, beef jerkey, roasted soy nuts...They may be hard to find...but they're around, lunchen meat, egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad.  That should hold you for awhile...

Thanks guys.  I'll try the banana in a shake (thought I already tried this one). Tried milk but getting Lactose intolerent so I then tried the soy milk. Both no help.  The problem I'm having with the protein foods is that I can't eat enough to get in 80-90 grams of protein, hence why I'm looking for a "shake" substitute.  I bought the liquid "one shot" strawberry 35g protein tube from Walmart yesterday but haven't tried that yet.

Do you guys know if the Unjury powder has that whey taste?  I know people put that in many of their meals to add protein.  Maybe I'll try posting in the RNY forum.  Those ladies over there normally have a lot of tried and tested input.

Isopure's Zero Carb Vanilla and Chocolate are kind of expensive, but don't have any whey taste (to me, anyway).

Cottage cheese and yoghurt work just as well, if you like them.

I get Pure Protein protein bars  about 200 cals for 20 grams of protein.

My advice is to go to www.vitalady.com and get samples. From my understanding the banana scream is suppose to be very good.

The best shake is the one that you will drink ...so it's important to find one that you can stand.

i was right there with you. i hated protein shakes post-surgery. my advice echoes others: buy samples. do not drop $20+ on another tub of anything until you are sure you can stomach it for the long haul. www.chikenutrition.com has a free sample pack (pay $7 for shipping), and though very thick, their's doesn't have a strong whey taste. you can find a number of samples through amazon.com too.

good luck!

A friend of mine says that if you buy protein powder at GNC and do not like it they will give you your money back.  Worth looking into
