Benefiber ??

As I posted last week, since moving from the liquid stage to the pureed, then soft food stage I have been having some issues with diarrhea.

I spoke with my surgeon also and based on his recomendation spent Friday and the weekend 'milk product'  free to see if it was a lactose issue - as of this morning, no change.  His first thought is that it might be a subtle form of Sumping Syndrom, but I have none of the other symptoms and my diet has been pretty tame.

Several of you said you use or have used Benefiber to help manage similar issues.  However I am now confused.  As I read about Benefiber, it seems to me that Benefiber is meant for people having the opposite issue than I am having.  It seems to really be meant to help prevent constipation.

So, to anyone using Benefiber, what gives.....do you really believe it is helping manage diarrhea?

Thanks

Increasing your fiber does a lot of good things for you.  It helps prevent constipation by adding bulk, but it also helps prevent diarrhea by helping to absorb and manage the excess fluids.  Your body is meant to consume a certain amount of fiber, and many of us WLS patients don't get enough - especially when on the clear liquids, pureed foods, and soft foods stages.  Later, it's a bit easier because your food choices are broader.  Bottom line - fiber helps keep you "regular".

AND diarrhea leads to hemorrhoids and fissures,, so again fiber,,, so I get prilosec, and miralax Rx to prevent both and my drug plan pays for them..

What JIM said...the fiber does help "bulk up" loose or watery stools.

Give it a try - you can get small bottles at Walgreens, RiteAid or any other drug or food store.

I mix one (1) teaspoon in with my morning coffee.  And yes, it has helped.
