OK, poop question!

The entire time I was on a liquid only diet I had very solid bowel movements every 2-3 days without much issue.

Since moving from liquid to pureed and now soft foods, I am having diarrhea almost every day - not a lot and there is NOT any nausea or any other issues.

I am not sure what is going on.  Any ideas?

Hot damn!  A poop question!

Your new gizzard  does not like what you are feeding it and is pissed off.  When it gets pissed off it is getting rid of the irritating substance the best way it knows how.  Send it on down the line resulting in the "E. D." Explosive Diarrhea!  It is part of the education that goes on with a new gizzard and hence the advice below!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Like you, once I got off the liquids, I began experiencing "loose stools" on a regular basis...  Until I learned that my body needed more fiber than I was getting, and started taking Benefiber (2 tsp daily in my morning coffee or protein drink).  Since then, I've had almost no issues.  I say "almost" because I don't always remember the Benefiber, and 12-18 hours later, I'll have loose stool again.

Not to argue with Don (how can you argue with the "Never trust a fart!" logic?)...  But there's "loose stool", then there's diarrhea, and then there's EXPLOSIVE diarrhea - the kind where you "break down the bathroom door to get there in time".

Formally distinguishing between "loose stool" and "diarrhea" is well beyond my medical expertise (non-existent!), but I generally go by the logic that a "one-time" event is just "loose stool" and can be safely ignored from a health standpoint.  Repeated loose stools, accompanied by mildly urgent need to evacuate, causes me to elevate it to "diarrhea" and become mildly concerned.  At that point I check my food log, to see if I ate something "new" or that my body doesn't like much, or is it something else.  Too much white carbs can cause mild diarrhea for me...  But more often, I realize that I just forget to take my Benefiber to keep things "bulked up"?  (I try to take a couple of teaspoons of Benefiber every day, but sometimes I forget.)

Every one of us is different, and "normal" for one is not "normal" for others.  Some guys are prone to constipation, while others are more prone to loose stool.  If it keeps up, and you're really worried about it, you should talk to your surgeon (or their PA, if they have one).  It's not normal to have diarrhea or constipation on an ongoing basis.  Your surgical team will be able to tell you if what you're seeing is normal, and help you deal with it if it's not normal.

No argument from me, Bubba.

Like your distinctions in the types of loose pookie.

I've been fortunate that I have not ever had to use anything to make me go either way.  Only issues I've ever had were some "beer can" sized turds several months out.  Nice piece of work on my part but I was walking funny when I got off the throne!

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Isn't this a sign of old age when we start talking about our crap and did you have a good one today?  LOL...Like Jim - I take my trusty Benefiber or the Walmart or Meijer brand daily.  I also started mixing a scoop of my Unjury or other Protein powder with a sm cup of the Activia Light.  I also mix in a little high protein cereal (Special K, Kashi, Ezekial )...the combination of good fiber and pro-biotic yogurt helps keep the plumb'm hum'n in a nice gentle way.  (Sound like a commercial don't I?)

I've also found that something high in fat or oil tends to "run" right on through.  So note to self...skip the fatty, greasy food or stay close to the necessary room.

There were a few days, where I had multiple very loose stools...ok, per Jim's definition, diarrhea...ok to be blunt, the screaming ****s!...anyway, I did take 1 immodium and that got me back in order.  I would encourage you to check with your Dr or PA first before trying any drugs, including the over the counter stuff.

And, most important, do follow Uncle Don's most sage advice...and Never...and I do mean NEVER trust a fart!

Thanks guys!

Up until today, by Bob's definition, I would have called it loose stools.  But today there were several evacuations required which caused me to escalate the name to diarrhea.

I am inclined it think it is NOT something I am eating.  In my change from pureed to real, but soft food items, the menu stayed almost identical....just not pureed.  It may just be the new 'normal'  If it lasts much longer I will check in with the Dr's office.

Thanks again - M

Although I usually have loose stool or the explosive type, I generally know what food I eat that do trigger the explosive type--excessive dairy products but not whey-based supplemental protein.  Go figure.

As to the thought of older men discussing poop, I distinctly remember one summer wherein every time I saw my nephew and niece (they were under 12 and I was in my early 40s ) and we' say a phrase of poop poop who has the poop and we'd go back and forth naming different animals' poops.  In latter years the subject would be different and I can see a bunch of guy using a similar jingle for a drinking game.  I've reminded of it because I only saw them a few times a year and the both distinctly remember that game.  Bob

Yeah, Benefiber helps alot.  But let me throw something else into the mix....."Growing Lactose Intolerent???"  I started noticing the same developing with me and my poops started turning tan and diareha all the time.  I bought some "Silk" milk (for Lactose Intolerent people) and stayed away from regular milk for a while. Almost immediately poops started getting more solid and back to brown again.  Then just the other day I wanted some soup and heated up a can of "Cream of Chicken".  Next day diareha again.

I keep reading where "MANY" people seem to develop Lactose Intolerence after WLS.  I guess I'm another one.

Also, be careful until you get back on track.  While I was going through it, I walked into a Winn Dixie to pick up a few things.  And right as I walked in the door I sneezed. As soon as I sneezed I felt what seemed to be a "wet one" shooting from my ass.  Well I made my way to the rest room and checked it out. Sure enough, tan sludge in my drawers. Good thing I caught it quick (before it went through to my pants. Threw my drawers in the trash, cleaned my ass, pulled my pants up and started heading out. Good thing I didn't drive off, because I got a gassy, fart feeling and went back inside for another bathroom visit. Sure enough, as learned from Don, "never trust a fart".

Sorry to keep this long, but figured some of you might need a good laugh.
