Rough workout - but worth it!
So last night I was really late leaving work (6:45), so by the time I got to the gym, it was after 7. I was tempted to "short cut" my workout, but realized that's the road I took to get to 411 lbs in the first place! So I did my 35 minute cardio workout - and punished my "lazy thoughts" by upping my pace a little bit on the treadmil. Made it through that OK, then hit the weights. Increased my weight on every exercise tonight, and did the "max" repetitions on each station. By the last machine (overhead press) it took everything I had to finish the set. I was totally whipped.
Then I noticed that the gym was pretty empty, glanced at the clock, and realized it was 9:00 already! The gym had been "closed" for 15 minutes. I rushed out the door (though that's hardly the word for my slow, agonized shuffle, barely lifting my feet off the ground), got to the locker room, and realized my keys had fallen out of my pocket. Argh! My car keys, wallet, etc. were in the locker. Had to climb back up the stairs, and search all over the floor.
Finally found them, dragged my butt down the stairs, grabbed my stuff and left. The staff were pretty nice about it, but were obviously just waiting for me to leave so they could close up. I apologized to them, and headed home.
When I got home, my wife had supper waiting, and I managed to eat about 2/3 of my usual amount, waited impatiently for the 30-minutes to go by, and drank about a quart of water and diet sugar-free juice... Finally crashed and slept like a log.
Now the payoff... Sure, I'm so sore this morning that I can hardly get up and down from a chair, but when I weighed myself, I've lost 6 lbs since Sunday! All the hard work at the gym is paying off. Life is good, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity to have this RNY procedure! I feel fantastic, even though I hurt all over!

I know what you mean about the desire to shortcut. I had taken a 2 week break from my routine since I use the gymn at my office and came to work very little over the holidays. Monday took everything I had to stay on the dreadmill and finish my full 5K. Today I was thinking :hey I am at 2 miles that is good enough" then my new big voice spoke up and reminded me that I have some good goals set this year and won't hit them without shortcuts so I did my full 5K in my second best time ever and then did 30 minutes of weights.
I keep looking at the barbell and thinking slap a couple 45 pounders on each end and be reminded where I started. If I ever start to give up this is what I will do.
You are doing an amazing job. Now post some pics of the newer you!

Great job Jim and great post!! There is something about that "hurt all over" that does feel right and good! Keep up the great work. Also like Paul's suggestion of putting two of those 45 pounders on the bar just to remind us when we want to take a short cut. Keep up the great work guys! Run On! Mike
