Anybody "Nordickin' " ?
Well, I don't know if it "counts" as nordic skiing, but I used to be really good on the Nordic Trac machine. I wish I hadn't let my wife talk me into selling it when we moved into a much smaller house a few years back... Low impact, but really a good workout.
I suspect the real thing is a LOT different, because you have to "skate" and push off the outside foot, which is a bit unrealistic on the Nordic Trac. But in any case, if we ever got enough snow to last more than 24 hours, I might be tempted to try it. This Dallas winter weather just isn't very conducive to skiing and other "snowy" activities...

Hi Jim,
Nordic is just another name for cross-country skiing. I've done Nordic Trac before and it is good exercise, though you don't get the variety and balance work that real skiing.
Nordic Trak is based on classic CC skiing, which has you on the balls of your feet and doesn't involve any sideways pushing. All pushing is front to back.
I've started doing skate style. The skis are completely slick on the bottom and a lot of weight is put on the heels. It also requires a lot more balancing on each ski. I haven't quite got it. Hope to soon.
Maybe roller skis? Most places don't get enough snow to do nordic for more than a few months of the years, so a lot of folks use those.
I think I'll have to make due with my inline skates for that.
Enjoy,
Dave
