little regain

I recently posted that i had reached my surgeons goal weight of 170. I lost the last 8 pounds by restricting all carbs, but I ended up splurging afterwards and regained it of course.

I don't really care so much to be at 170 anyways, but I want to make a personal goal to lose 3 pounds and maintain at 175. I figure it's better to maintain at a reasonable weight than to end up in a deprive binge cycle again. That was just stupid.

I think you are on the right track.  Most of us got here by yo-yo dieting, splurging, and regaining.  I'd love to get to 185, but my surgeon says 205 is a "reasonable" goal for me, and I would rather make goal - and stay there - than go well below the goal, and start a "regain" cycle...

We're all proud of your results, and inspired by your success.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks Jim.

It's very true that after years of yo-yo dieting since childhood, it's hard to find middle ground. I suppose I'll learn with time.

Maintain at a weight that feels right .... not a # on scale that looks good. When you started this journey you would have been happy to lose a lot less than you have. Great job ! Don't be a slave to the scale .... it's just a #.

I got down to 180 and didn't feel good at all. I have hit the weights and put on 25 pounds of muscle and look an feel 10 times better.

Nate and Jim are so right.  I'm not sure where those weight guidelines came from, but I know they say I should lose another 10 pounds.  While I might be ok with that, my wife really doesn't want me to lose anymore.  She doesn't want me looking gaunt and drawn.  With my height (6'1") I am still considered "over weight" at 195.  BUT, I'm really Ok with that!  I would like to maintain under 200.  What's important is the lifestyle change, being healthy, and feeling great!

Keep up the great work SPUD!  You are an inspiration to all of us and alot of us older guys wish we could have had WLS at a young age like you.  You've got a whole healthy life ahead of you...Enjoy!

Hey, you're still doing good. I think it's great you caught the regain before it got outta hand.

But, when I started this journey I was told to keep an eye on the scale and a sharper eye on the measurements. I think some weight gain is to be expected as you build muscle.

So, while there may be some gain on the scale, I'd be more concerned if there were significant changes in the measurements.

After I reach my goal weight I plan to use the scale as a quick barometer of where I'm at. But as long as the pants still fit and the belly is the same measurement, I probably won't worry.
