Happy New Years! Welcome 2011 and a smaller, healthier me!
Happy New Years everyone. Hopefully everyone had an enjoyable New Years Eve and behaved themselves. As usual, I did not make it to midnight to ring in the New year, but I did have an enjoyable time spending the evening with family and friends.
Thankfully I was able to partake in a few of the food options last evening. I never thought I would be excited about pureed/soft food! I made 2 appetizers to bring so I knew I would be able to have some. One was a crab and artichoke dip, made with all light cheese(s) and sour cream. The other was a shrimp dip. Both were heavy on the protein and I stayed away from the crackers and bread that gets dipped into them. I was very happy just being able to eat about a tabelspoon of each!
This afternoon for lunch I made chicken and steak fajitas for the rest of the family (we had left over chicken and beef in the fridge). Sauteed the meat with peppers, onions and some seasoning. I then took out about 2 ounces, added some salsa, and light sour cream and pureed.....finished it with some light cheddar on top (about a teaspoon). It was really good!
It's really nice to sit down with the family to eat a meal again, something I missed during the 3 week liquid phase.
Only 3 days to go before I move to 'real food', then the real test begins. It is pretty easy to make 'healthy choices' when you're only doing liquid or pureed. Once I hit real food, I have a feeling it will be a bit more challenging.

Yes sir you are correct in your assessment of the situation.
Learning to eat post op is a lot of trial and error. When you have a negative experience with a new food put it aside for about a month, try it again and see what happens. Try to avoid anything thing that is too dry or has the consistency of a hockey puck. Trouble guaranteed if you don't. Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Potentially hurling your cookies or sharting in your skivvies are hints too!
