Am I overreacting

Hi guys,
Frustration is slowly building in me, I know I had surgery 3 weeks ago, and it’s not a miracle cure, it’s a tool to help me be healthy. I am frustrated, because I haven’t lost a pound in the past two weeks. I started taking my measurements the day before my surgery so I can keep track of my inches, so I can tell if I am really not losing anything. I seem to have put inches on my belly, I don’t see how. I don’t eat nearly like I used to or in the same quantity. I really don’t understand I am following everything the doctor and nutritionist have me doing. I’m eating or drinking about 65g – 85g of protein a day; I’m walking everyday average 2 -3 miles a day, sometimes even 4 miles. I’ve had this issue in the past where I diet and exercise and my weight goes nowhere. I feel like my body just wants to stay where it’s at, no matter what I my mind wants, or what I do to my body. I went with surgery because, I felt it was the best way for me to have a healthier life; I’m just really waiting for the benefits to happen to me. I read how successful everyone else is right after the surgery, I just want that. I know its hard work and I’m completely game and ready for the hard work to become a success. Let’s hope I start the New Year off right with a few pounds gone next week. Let’s end this week update on a good note, I hit a milestone walking this morning. I did 2.35 miles in an hour, it basically drained me for most of the day, but it’s still an accomplishment. I still haven’t hit 10000 steps yet, but will by end of the week.

Is it too early for me to feel this way or am I just overreacting?

Well for a guy your size, you likely have serious metabolic issues preventing from losing weight. Being that you have a sleeve, I would try a ketosis kind of diet like atkins. If that doesn't work, then I would highly recommend having a duodenal switch as a stage two procedure.

Hey GA - yea, frustration at slow or no loss is one of the "hurdles" we all have to deal with.  The key is to stick to your plan and continue to follow the instructions of your dr/Nut/trainer - your team.

Let's look at your facts...you've LOST 99 lbs so far!!!  That's pretty damn good!  So yea, you may be overreacting a little???  LOL

Remember your body has been through a major trauma both with the surgery and your pre-op weight loss.  Your body has gone into a survival mode.  It 'thinks" something is wrong and your metabolism has likely adjusted.  One of the biggest problems those of us who have Yo-Yo dieted and lost-gained-lost-gained more most of our lives is a screwed up metabolism.  Stick to your plan and you will break through!

The fact that you are getting up and doing 3-4 miles and increasing your pace says volumes.  Congratulations!  Keep doing what you are doing.

Focus on high protein, low carb, get your water in, and keep exercising.  Stick to plan and 2011 will be an awesome year for you!

Happy New Year!

Mike

 Thanks Mike,

I've been told by everyone I am overreacting, and my nutritionist told me basically the same this morning.

Yea, I am overreacting a bit, it's been a very successful year for me...

Happy New Year to you as well.

Post your diet here. Maybe one of us could offer tips. I've heard a lot about people eating the wrong things. I've done it myself. Getting the? right protein can be at 700 calories or 1500. I'm not saying that is what you are doing but its a possibility.

Breakfast - Scrambled eggs with Cheese (7am)
post workout snack - Jay Robb Protein Shake with B12 complex (8:30)
lunch - Grilled tilapia (12:00)
45 min walk 2 (2:00)
snack - 8 pieces of cubed cheese (3:00)
dinner - 1/2 cup of Chunky Chili puree with cheese and scoop of unflavored unjury (6:00)
45 min walk 2
post work snack - Jay Robb Protein Shake mix with low fat milk and fiber one yogurt.

This was my schedule yesterday. I had been doing mash potatoes with unjury mixed in but I was told I should stay away from white flour.

This will probably change after I start working again after the new year.

Here is 2 cents from someone who has been here watching this board for a very very long time:

Stay off the scale until you are at the Doctor for your 3 month check-up!

I say it over and over again and no one has the BALLS in here to do it.  The scale screws with your mind.  I only got on a scale my 1st 9 months at my 3, 6, and 9 month check-ups and never had the stall problems because I never knew I was on a stall.  Stalls happen and they break.

All the guys in here will say that they overreacted to their stalls, and that they finally broke and they lost a bunch of weight.  Get off of the scale roller-coaster because it will make you crazy if you don't.

I just might try this, because every time I step on the scale I think it's broken anyway. Thanks for the great advice.
