Regret

Let me preface these next statements with this: this is MY journey thus far. What I am sharing is for information only as I'm seeking support. I wish all the best to newbies and to pending sleevers.

I am two weeks out and am absolutely miserable.

- I feel like there is a lump in my throat with every sip I take
- Reflux / heartburn are killing me ... I'm coughing now because of them I think
- I am weak beyond belief
- I cannot sleep in prone position at night (I just doubled my dosage of Protonix so I hope that helps)
- I am suffering from a WICKED attack of gout (I have an appointment in the AM with a rheumatologist for steroids injections in the morning)
- Im feeling like Im having difficulty breathing for some reason ... like food and drink are backed up to my lungs ...

Folks, please tell me that all these things pass ... I hate to be a naysayer but it seems like some new problem pops up every day.

Cid - first I am so sorry you are suffering so!  What does your surgeon say?  Has he/she given you any advice?  From everything I've heard from both my fellow RNYers and those with the Sleeve, what you are describing is NOT routine or 'normal'.  Yes, each of us is different but it sounds like you may have a stricture.  Have you asked your doc to scope you and see what is going on?  Don't be passive about this, but get in your surgeon's face and get him/her to help you!  Mike

Weakness is very normal but your extreme weakness doesn't sound right. Neither does the lump in the throat and heartburn.

I've gotta agree with Mike that this sounds like a possible stricture. And the difficulity breathing is also a major concern. Is it possible you've developed a blood clot from the surgery?

Glad you're seeing the Dr. for the gout. But, I'd also call the WLS surgeon immediately.

Best of luck and you're in my prayers.

Call your surgeon.  Immediately.  What you've described is absolutely NOT normal, and you need to get them involved right away.  Sorry you're having such a rough time, but once it's taken care of, things should get much easier for you.  (I'm assuming you're following the post-op liquid diet and all the other post-op instructions to the letter, right?)
