Hey guys! /waves hello

Hey guys, just checking in...  A fellow goalie friend recommended this website for info and support as I go through my WLS... So here I am...

A little about me:  36 yr old male, 320lbs @ 6'3.  I'm a father of one, father to another and work a fairly sedentary job...  I'm a hockey nut and my weight has really crimped my style over the past 5 or so years... Where once I was playing 4x a week in my 20's, I'm now down to once every couple of weeks...

I'm currently in the process of being assessed for Roux-en-y surgery...  There's a new bariatric assessment center in my town, where you go through the process before being sent down to Hamilton where they do the actual surgery.

I've had gone through the 2 hour info session, met for an hour with a dietician and doctor.  At my 8 week apt I have to meet again with the dietician, doctor and a psychiatrist...  I've donated 9 vials of blood, had an ECG and an ultrasound of my abdomen.

If all goes well on January 4th, then I'll be scheduled for a throat examination and after that I'll meet via video conference with the surgeon and my team (dietician/doc/shrink) to get the final thumbs up/thumbs down...

From what I'm hearing, if all goes well surgery could come in the spring...

I'm stalking a lot of threads atm... Lots of information to absorb... Glad this forum exists.

Kev, when I first read your post I thought a fellow goalie was what you called another person at goal.  Now I understand that you are a hockey goalie.  I suppose Hamilton is in Canada.  One other confusing line which has nothing to do with WLS is being a father of one and father to another.  Huh?  An adoption?  Doesn't matter.  I can't stand up on skates.  Heck, I have trouble standing for more than a few minutes anyway.

In other useless information, my wife's cousin lives in a Detroit suburb and plays in 2 leagues that play games in the US and Canada.  He's slowed down that activity since having 2 children himself.

I hope you'll post more often.  You can find out more about individual men by looking at their profiles and by linking to their Latest Posts.  I'm guilty of not updating my profile because I don't think much has happened in a while.  I post often enough that most of the guys are probably sick of me (just kidding).  My Latest Posts show where my thinking is currently at.  It does change over time and even in the course of a year.

I'll probably always have an adversarial attitude towards my addictive foods.  I've been a food addict for over 30 years.  Sometimes I throw my hands up in the sky and want to give up.  Luckily those moments are brief.  I get support here.  I also pray for help from my god.  I won't preach, but my belief system is an integral part of my life even if I keep making mistakes.

I live with my gf (who I've dated for near 5 years) and her 7 yr old son... Thats where the 'father to another' comes in .  Sorry for the confusion!  :)

And yes, Hamilton is in Canada... It's close to Toronto  ;)

As for hockey, ya, I'm a goalie as well...  I used to play more often, but it seems the kidlets get on the ice way more than I do nowadays...  When it's their hockey vs mine, I'm always the one standing and watching at the rink.

Hey Kev - WELCOME!  We'll all be pulling for you and hope everything goes well with your docs and getting your approval for surgery.  My Roux-en-y or RNY as we call it on the Men's Forum, was one of the best things I've done.  I wish I would have had it in my 30s.  Come back often...keep us posted on your progress...don't be afraid to ask questions or for advice...there are a ton (bad pun) of us here to give it freely!  Even when not asked.  Hopefully, you'll get the weight off and be back on the ice with your boys, showing them a thing or two!  That is the BEST part of it all...Best of luck to you!  Mike

Welcome, Kev.  Glad you found us.  We all benefit from the mutual help, advice, encouragement, and even the occasional ass kicking (when truly deserved) that we provide each other here on OH Men's Forum.  We'll be looking forward to hearing of your progress, and welcoming you to the "loser's bench" once you've had your surgery.  As Don (Grandpa-G) said, there's a "ton" of us here, but soon to be only a 1/2 ton!

Hi Kev,

Good luck with your WLS journey. I just had my RNY this week, so I'm a newbie, too.

My approval process went very smoothly, and I'm glad they (insurance and doctor) made me jump through all the hoops so I knew exactly what I was getting into.
