An Eagles Fan in a "mixed" marriage.

I've been a Jets fan since I was a teenager but I became an Eagles fan when I moved to S Jersey 30 years ago.  My wife who is 58 has been a Giants fan since she was 5.  For many years it didn't really matter since both teams were kind of lousy.  They routinely did stupid things like dropping kick-offs--we'd just hope they wouldn't even attempt to catch the ball.

Of course things have change in the past 10 years.  They're now competitive and my wife and I kid each other when they play.  We usually support the other person's team when they are not playing each other but we just couldn't be that way this year.

Well, as fate would have it, an Eagle fielded a *****nd dropped it.  Then came the 2nd Miracle in the Meadowlands.  My wife said the Giants just showed their true colors and played like Giants.

I sent an e-mail to my friend who had taken his 25 year old son to see the Eagles on Th 12-02-10 at night and imagined that his son must be jubilant (my friend said it took them 2 hours after the game to thaw out).  But, my friend said his other son is a Giants fan and they are much more demonstrable than my wife and I.

Heck, I'll admit that I briefly turned off the game in the 3rd quarter.  But I turned it back on a few minutes later and witnessed something I'll probably never see again.

I'm a die-hard Cowboys fan, married to another die-hard Cowboys fan.  However, my wife's sister lives in Philly, and is THE MOST FANATIC female fan I've ever heard of...  She has a special room in her house just for watching Eagles games.  She almost gives herself a heart attack every time a ball is dropped, or anything "bad" happens to the Eagles.  She's more entertaining than the football game!

But I do have to admit that Michael Vick has made the Eagles really interesting to watch - no play is over until the whistle blows, and he gets out of more "near sacks" than anyone I've seen in a long time.  Who would have believed that he could turn around both his life and his career the way he has.  Major props to him (and Tony Dungee, who spent a lot of time mentoring him).

And although I can't stand Deshawn Jackson's arrogance and self-aggrandizing behavior around the goal line, you can't argue with the fact that the man is a major talent.  (Fantastic punt return for a TD at the end of the Giants game, almost spoiled for me by his high-stepping all the way across the field before finally crossing the goal line.  I would have laughed myself silly if that trailing defender had caught him on the 1 yard line...)

Enjoy the season - my wife tells me we have to root for the Eagles the rest of the way, since the Cowboys are out of it, and she doesn't want her sister to die of a heart attack.  I told her I just can't do that, since the two teams play on the last game of the season...  But I will root for them against everyone else... and into the playoffs...  Go Eagles!  (Gag!  That was hard!)

I've HATED the Dallas Cowboys as long as I can remember.  And, it's not because of them.  I hate them being called America's Team since they are only Dallas' team.  Actually, I only resented them back in the days of Tom Landry and Roger the dodger.  I admired Roger for having served his military time prior to playing for the Cowboys.

I do love seeing the Dallas Cheerleaders.  The Eagles owner's wife knows Vera Wang and Vera Wang designed the Eagles Cheerleaders costumes.  They don't look any better than anyone else's.  I've been singing the Eagles Fight song all day.  By the way, all kids in all schools ( public and private) are taught it as soon as they start school.  And, they review it every year and sing it often.

My wife bemoans the fact that the Giants have neither a fight song nor cheerleaders.  They don't really need to do anything for their fans as there is an estimated 30 year wait for tickets for the Giants.  How's that even possible?  Many Giants fans come down to Philly to watch them just so they can see them for a fairly reasonable price ( yeah, right).

The best seat in the house is just that, i.e., right in your house.  You can't beat it for comfort.  Bob
