I was wondering if any of  you guys after surgery have  experienced an intensified sense of smell.  I literally got sick tonight at work.  A patient came into the Emergency Room with strong Body Odor mixed with Cologne, and I got sick to my stomach.  Also the smell of certain foods just dont seem to mix well with my stomach.  Has this ever happened to anyone?

Oh, yeah!  In church the other day, a woman's perfume almost made me hurl.  I came home from work one day, and the house just reeked of garlic (to me).  No one else was even noticing a faint trace of it.  Turns out my wife had roasted 1 clove of garlic 6-7 hours earlier in the day for some food she was taking to a neighbor who just got out of the hospital.  At work, someone made some popcorn in the break room on the 2nd floor at the far end of the building from me (easily 300 ft away) and I could smell it...

The heightened sense of smell is talked about all over these forums - especially the main forum.  It's very common, but not universal.  Some people don't notice any change at all...  Go figure!

Sorry for the late reply but I just read your post.  I had the intensified sense of smell for about the first 3 months but now I'm either acclimated to it or it has gone back to normal.
