One Year Post Op

What a year it has been! I've lost about 140 lbs and found new enthusiasm for life. There are countless ways that life has improved. I don't see it mentioned on the boards much, but every physical action I take is easier. I have gone from avoiding stairs to being able to run. In fact I ran 5K distance in 32:11 on Saturday as part of my regular workout.

I'm not arrogant enough to say this weight loss is gone forever. I can say that I feel like I have an asset that I want to protect at all costs. Knowing how easily I let my health slip through my fingers before, I fight every day to make the choices that will keep me on the right track. This is my goal for the coming year.

Now the good stuff, before and after. My only regret in these pictures is that I'm smirking in my after photo instead of smiling ear to ear.

Congratulations.  I can't even imagine climbing stairs.  I avoid them and can't even get up on sidewalks with a modest curb without my rollator.  Otherwise, I look for the ramplike lip.  If there isn't one, I don't even try if I don't have the rollator (can't even do it with just a cane).

Hey MB - CONGRATS - your looking great!  What a difference.  You are so right about not being arrogant.  It is a life long battle.  Fortunately, those of us who have the tool of WLS, we have an excellent aid to help us.  I hope and pray you enjoy a great year in 2011 of continued health and success!  All the Best!  Mike

p.s. - I see you are from Midland, MI...any chance you may be coming to Grand Rapids to run any of the 5k, 10k, or other races this year?  If so, let me know, it would be great to connect either before or after.

Possibly. I'm not much for running outside when it's cold. However, I am going to run one race per month between April and October. Let me know if there are any good races I should check out.

Great post and thanks for the visuals. It's one thing to SAY how much you've lost. It really helps when we can SEE the difference.

Congrats on your progress.
