Just realized -- I'm no longer SMO!
Was logging my breakfast, and updated my weight from this morning (338, down another 2 lbs today). I hadn't noticed my BMI for a while, so I looked at it, and VOILA - I'm no longer SMO. I'm just MO! I'm at the lightest I've been in 15+ years. Increased my walking distance from 1.5 to 2 miles this morning. Had to go a little slower towards the end, but it's a start, right? Remember, Jim - Marathon - not sprint... Marathon - not sprint. Marathon... Next week I finally can start strength training. Found a community center that has pretty decent weight machines (plus free weights), three kinds of stationary bikes, both treadmills and ellipticals, and has both lap and free-swim pools. They also have a "lazy river" thing where you can either work "with" or "against" the current. And the best part is - it costs less than half what the other gyms in the area charge (less than $17 per month). I'm hooking up next week! Can't wait to get started.
Great news! Looking forward to hearing updates on the exercise. You should checkout the exercise and fitness forum, you will get some great advice and tons of support and inspiration.

That community center sounds great and the cost is fantastic. Once you start working out there, you will probably enjoy comraderie with the people who are there. You will likely get help on how to ease into exercising from other members without even having to work with a trainer. Many clubs include a few free sessions with a trainer as part of the membership. You should eventually look into either individual or group sessions. I know that just walking in a pool can be rewarding.
If you are like many of us who feel cold a lot following your surgery, you may want to see if the center allows yous to wear certain clothing while in the pool. I worked out in one pool that was kept at 90-92 degrees and that was comfortable for me. But, the regular pool was kept at 86 degrees and that seems to be the normal indoor temp for most pools. I was shivering in that. I got a lightweight long sleeved shirt from www.smimoutlet.com but I forget the type of shirt. I think it's either a surfing or body surfing shirt. It helped me a lot.. Bob

Jim - great news and great progress! You are doing awesome! And WOW what a great deal on the gym! Do take advantage of it. Like some of the other responses, I encourage you to take work with a trainer. He can show you the "right" way to do the various exercises, free weights, and machines.
Keep up the great job and continue to keep us posted on your progress! CONGRATS! Mike
p.s. sounds like you may be getting the mantra....marathon not sprint...marathon not sprint : )
