Rollercoaster week

As I posted earlier, last week I met with a NUT who increased  my calories to 1000-1200.  This has been a real challenge in that I am always second guessing should I have eating 1oz of nuts rather than 2.  Just visually seeing the calorie totals are a mess in my mind after all 332 calories for breakfast is way to much even after a run that burned them off, right?

What made it even worse was I had gained 4 pounds after increasing my calories which had me really pissed off mentally I knew this was going to happen since my metabolism had slowed down due the level of my caloric deficit.  Today I am happy to report I am right back where I was 1 week ago, I have dropped all 4 pounds the past week had seen me gain.

On an even better note is I run another 5K tomorrow, and this one my 9 year old son is doing with me.  After all he is one of the reasons I did this.

That's good news, Paul.  I'm glad the NUT's advice worked for you.  I'm also really happy hearing that you're running a 5K with your 9 year old son.  That's really cool, and it's what this WLS is really all about.  I have very fond memories of jogging with my dad when I was about 9-10.  Although I must confess that I probably drove the poor man half-crazy!  For the first half of the run, I would run in circles around him, showing off and trying to get him to go faster...  Then the second half of the run I would go into the kid whine "How much farther is it?  Are we there yet?"  Guess I didn't know much about "pacing" back then - LOL.  But when I talked to my dad about it many years later, he didn't remember any of that - just that we got to spend time together, and talked about "stuff".  Fond memories...

Paul, I'm glad that you are working with a Nut. In 2009, I started following a food addicts diet and lost 50 lbs over 5 months with little or nor exercise.  I know that's not the right way to work the program.  But, I was able to lose weight while eating 1,600 cal per day.  I know from the past that our brains play tricks on us regarding how we think exercise affects our weight loss.  The best course to follow now is to stick to the nut's diet and to do your exercise.  If you go over to the Exercise and Fitness Forum and ask them about the effects of exercise, you will probably get a more complete response.  You may want to alternate days on which you concentrate on cardio with days on which you do weight training.  I've mentioned in the past that my brother is an avid bicyclist and runner and he only does those disciplines.  That is, he does not do any weight training.

Thanks!

I have been an active member of the exercise and fitness forum since I was a few weeks out.

My exercise routine right now is

Cardio (Running/Jogging/walking  not sure what you classify what I do) mon, weds and friday monring  When outdoors it is typically 4.5 miles at my pace indoors on a treadmill it is a 5K at a more set pace but still doing it as intervals.

Tues and Thurs nights are TaeKwonDo class which is about 40-50 percent fitness and working on the core.

Sat and Sunday are reserved for my family and 5K runs.

Next years goals are
1 5K per month
10K on July 4th
Seriously considering a 1/2 marathon in the Fall.

Hey Paul - yes this ride can be a roller-coaster both physically and mentally.  The whole weight gain thing can really mess with the mind and is a ******!  As you know, you just have to hang tough and work through it.

Good luck on your 5k tomorrow and congrats on running it with your son!  That IS what this is all about!  All the Best!  Mike
