Scars: To Treat or Not To Treat?

Ok, I'm 4 weeks out, and loving my sleeve.  I am waiting for a 'post-op' post until my one month date.

But, I'm wondering what your strategy is for your scars.  I've got 3 that are about an inch long, and a couple that are about 1/4 inch.

Should I be treating them with something now?  Will they just disappear into my belly fur (once it grows back)?  Is there anything that will actually make them disappear, or does it just depend on what my body wants to do with them?

For the newbies, are you doing anything for the scars?
For the oldies, did you do anything?  If so, did it work?  If you didn't, do you mind having your war wounds visible, or do you dislike them being the only blemish on your statuesque physiques?!

Only need to treat them if they are still open otherwise leave them be.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Like don said, only if they are infected. I had to take an antibiotic because there was puss oozing out of one of my incisions. As long as they are healing well I wouldn't worry about them.

Let them be, unless they are irritated or oozing, then a little triple Antibiotic cream works great.  If the discoloration or scaring bothers you, you can use Mederma Cream or Cocoa butter and vitamin E oil, which may help fade the scars...

I've heard there are topical creams that are supposed to minimize the appearance of scars, but I've never tried them.  Just let nature take its course.
Believe me, it will be the masses of loose skin hanging from your biceps, chest, and waist that will concern you more than your scars six months from now.

The doctor that I work with in a clinic gave me a prescription cream to prevent scarring, and she also advised me to use Coconut Oil and Vitamin E to ensure no scarring.

There is really no answer for this question.  Some people have all sorts of home remedies to prevent scar formation, but it really comes down to genetics.  Some people will develop thick dark scars with minor surgery.  I can see my scars post 3 years RNY, but I know where to look.  I am sure that most people at the pool or beach would never even realize they are there.

To  be honest I have not thought about my scars in a very long time.  They are not an issue for me.  The excess skin is more of an issue for me.
