Ughhh The pureed stage
I've been on the pureed stage since Monday. I am having a hard time drinking the protein shakes, but have been eating greek yogurt, it seems to contain about 14 grams of protein. My friend was telling me that if I dont drink the protein shakes, I would stall with my weight loss ,is this true??? My weight has stalled I honestly think. I tried a mashed bannana and it didn't go down well, and I am sick of broth/soups. Any other ideas for the pureed stage?
I did mashed potatoes with gravy mixed with unflavored Unjury protein powder. Mixing the gravy and potatoes, you can make it as thin or thick as you can comfortably tolerate. If you don't want to cook the potatoes yourself, I found the small side from Kentucky Fried Chicken was pretty good.
Also, cottage cheese with some salsa or marinara sauce is pretty good. Mix it up and nuc it for 30 seconds to warm it up. Sprinkle a little parm cheese on top and it's pretty tasty. If you want more protein again mix in some unflavored Unjury.
By taking in the additional protein via the powder mixed with your pureed food, you get your protein in and don't necessarily have to do it in a shake.
Good luck and hang in there...you are making great progress and remember this is a long journey, a marathon, not a sprint!

Wendy's chili
Refried Beans
Baked Ricotta
Egg Salad
Flaky fish
Salmon Cakes (Skinless boneless salmon replace bread crumbs with Fine grated Parmesean)
I wish I could say I missed this stage but honestly I don't. How many days is your pureed food stage.
You can do this, just take control of your mind and tell yourself you can.

I'm loving Wendy's chili!
And I enjoyed your baked ricotta and marinara too. **You forgot to mention that the recipe makes enough for a whole week!
I've seen the refried beans on a few people's lists, but didn't think they had much redeeming nutritional value. How many grams of protein do you get out of a serving?
I'll have to give salmon cakes a try.
Thanks,
Chad

Thanks guys,
I can't do eggs, I tried lastnight and I got sick as heck. They were very soft, but didn't work. I have ten more days before I can go onto the baked fish, ricotta cheese, according to my doctors guideline. They call fish, beans, ricotta cheese, the soft foods stage. Thanks for those suggestions tho guys, I will definitely be trying them.

Wow, you've got good suggestions. I'm glad that men who have recently gone through WLS are posting with their suggestions. The only thing I remember from the end of that stage is how I hated the taste of pureed chicken. My wife had cooked it and we actually pureed it in a blender. Yuk.
It won't be long before you will be exploring various tastes and textures. The positive thing I remember in the earlier stages of the post-op diet was to have patience when reintroducing foods to your diet. A food that you can't handle in another week or two may be tolerable a few weeks after that.
Many doctors don't want their patients to have protein shakes at all--ever. At almost 6 years post-op from my revision, I don't know how I'd get in enough protein without them. Check with your surgeon's office as to how much protein they want you to have now. I wouldn't expect you to be having 80g per day now. You will eventually build up to a comfortable level. And, your weight won't stall this soon after surgery.

For me the protein levels and weight loss do seem to be related - Currently I find that I need to reach at least 70g of protein to lose weight consistently. Less than that and I flucutuate/stall a lot. I was eating 60, stalled for a while, and a called my NUT to review what I was doing. She suggested INCREASING my protein to 70, and it sure did the trick.
She also wants me to limit sodium to 1500 day - Which is really hard to do . I find it difficult to stay under the sodium limit unless at least some of protein comes from a shake or protein powder. A little frozen fruit in the shake if you are using a blender gives it a more ice-cream texture IMO.
During pureed - I liked greek yogurt mixed with a little bit of SF jam/preserves, bu****ch the sugar content in the flavored greek yogurts.
Cottage cheese with cinnamon
Fat-free refried black beans thinned with low sodium chicken stock (more protein than broth) and a touch of salsa and either sour cream or greek yogurt.
As always, follow the list from your Dr.
