Has anyone made tea with Spelnda, Nutrisweet or anything like that? Just wondered what tasted and worked the best.

If it has cafeine I would pass for a few months.  The cafeine will cause more thirst...which causes dehydration (dehydration is the # 1 reason WLS people reenter the hospital).  Stick with herbal teas.  But I (4 years out) have both sweet and regular hot tea...About 4 days a week.  I add milk, Splenda, and lemon for my hot tea....Splenda and lemon for my sweet tea.  Just me...Brian

Well my issue is already hydration. Any kind of flavored water or Powerade/Powerade Zero now has a bad aftertaste and sometimes makes my stomach burn.

Plain water, tea, soy milk, stuff like that is fine. Since tea is mostly water, I am going to start drinking it, but just wanted to replace the sugar.

Man after my own heart!  I use Equal myself.  Taste better to me than Spenda or Sweet N Low.  Dittos to what Brian says about laying off the caffeine early out.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

Crystal Lite has a Great Decaf Iced tea.  We keep a picture of it in the fridge all the time.  I also drink alot of decaf tea, both hot and iced, with splenda, my sweetener of choice.

I'd die without my splenda, lol.  So yea, i've done a lot of tea with splenda.  To me, i can't tell the difference between it and the real thing.

Ok, So I had this conversation with my WLS nurse/friend.

First do not introduce any caffeine products too early after surgery (i.e. wait till about 6 months).

Once you do introduce it, do NOT count it as your fluid intake.  So if you have 20oz of a caffeine drink, you do not count that as 20oz towards your goal for the day.

Basiclly drink the same amount in non caffeine products as caffeine and you should be fine.

This coming from a coffee freak!

I've been enjoying decaf tea with Splenda just for a change.  I make it very weak (1 teabag in a 32-ounce glass) and it's just enough to mask the 'earthy' taste of our water at work...

I mentioned to my Surgeon that I was drinking alot of Diet Snapple Ice Tea. He told me to be careful as tea has Tannic acid which has been linked to ulcers. I asked him if this was specific to Snapple and he said it was tea in general.

So I decided to cut back on the Diet Snapple.

Just thought I would pass that along.
