Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving All!
As I type this, I am getting ready to go out for a 4 mile run. Yea, a 4 mile run. Last year on Thanksgiving, I was at my highest weight of 287 lbs, a sleep deprived, hypertensive, diabetic, who got winded going to the fridge for something else to eat. Who da thunk one year later I would be under 200 pounds and getting up, going out, and running 4 miles on Thanksgiving morning.
Later today, my sons, their wives, my grandson, my mom, my mother & father-in-law, brother-in-law and his family, and of course my beautiful, wonderful, supportive wife will gather around to give thanks. I have so much to be thankful for. I always have, but this year, it is different.
Enjoy the day my OH-Men's Forum friends. I am thankful for the support and encouragement from each of you.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Mike

I agree fully Grandpa-G (aka Mike) A year ago I felt like CRAP. Now my numbers are good, my PCP loves me and I can get out of the couch without straining. And as an added FART, I got into a size 36 waist pants this week!
Remember how we used to dread this holiday as we knew we would overeat and then have to get back on the scale? Now I know I will not overeat! and I will not feel the remorse I felt in past years.
I have recently had the chance to talk to some friends who see my progress and are asking me about WLS. As my son (down 140 since RNY in June) posted on his facebook recently, "Having people tell you how great you look hasn't lost its charm yet".
My THANKS to the Lord and to all of you as you continue to help me and others along our WLS Journey.

I was so busy yesterday that I didn't have time to post... No 4-mile run for me (yet), but I walked 1.5 miles in the morning, then another 1.5 miles with my wife after the turkeys were in the oven. She walks faster than I do (but I'm getting closer every day!), but took pity on me and walked just fast enough to push my pace pretty good...
Had Thanksgiving dinner with my sister's family, and I took about a tablespoon of each item (and left some of everything except the turkey and broccoli puff). I would never have believed I could enjoy a meal so much while eating so little. My pouch was happy, and I was happy. I even tasted some fruit-filled jell-o salad that had some cranberry sauce in it... Just a tiny bite, but boy was it good!
After dinner, went to my son's house, where he and his fiancee were hosting her extended family (about 30 people) for dinner. We arrived just after they finished eating, and stayed a couple of hours, and had desert with them. We modified the "standard" pumpkin pie recipe by using Splenda instead of sugar and non-fat evaporated milk, and it was great! If you skip the crust (where most of the calories, fat, and sugar are concentrated), a 2-inch wedge is well under 100 calories. Next time, I might add some unflavored protein powder, and eat it for breakfast! LOL
This year, I have so much to be thankful for... Finally having the RNY and beginning to get my life back on track, the love of a wonderful woman and the best kids a guy could hope for, a great job that I enjoy tremendously, a miniature Schnauzer who worships the ground I walk on (and goes for walks with me every day), and a loving God who provides all these blessings.
I feel like I'm the most fortunate man on the planet!
