What are the signs of a hernia?
It is my understanding that overstraining can cause hernia post op. I'm worried about it because, even getting in and out of bed is a strain.
Does anyone have a good resource, or idea as to what I need to watch out for?
I'm guessing that the abdominal pain I'm having now (only 2 days out of surgery) is just healing from the incisions, and their removing of the excess stomach (VSG).
Thanks,
Chad

Chad, At only two days out, it's a safe bet that the pain you feel is still from the surgery. While I had an RNY, I had some pain for several days. Although it wasn't bad enough to require pain meds after I got home from the hospital (2 days post-surgery).

Agree, the pain you are feeling is most likely the incisions and re-arranging of your insides.
I did have an umbilical hernia from a previous lap surgery (gall bladder) about 13 years ago. I never had pain with the hernia, but had a large bulge that kept growing. Fortunately my surgeon was able to correct the hernia when he did my RNY.
Some things you may want to do just being a few days post-op, when you sit on the toilet or push, hold a pillow across your gut. Use it to brace. You can also use the pillow as you are getting up and moving, until the incisional discomfort is past.
