Maybe try some Gas-X strips to help with belching or just let 'em rip!
Protein and water and hard to get in the quantity that your doc recommends at first. Get what you can in! In a short time you will be able to work up to the recommended amount.
On pooping remember liquid in = liquid out. You're not going to be dropping two pounders right after surgery. If you have not had a BM by Monday contact your doctor and by all means see the information below!
Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!
It was 7-8 days before my first BM - surgeon said it was OK, since I'd been on a liquid diet for 2 days pre-surgery as well. Since then, every couple of days is the norm...
Getting enough protein immediately post-surgery is tough. I start my day with a 20-min walk, followed by breakfast, which is 1 scoop of Isopure Dutch Chocolate and 2 tsp of Benefiber mixed into 1 cup of warm milk, which I then combine with 1 cup of strong decaf coffee and nurse that for almost an hour. Starts the day with 33g of protein, and after that, it's easy to get the rest in. If I'm not in the mood for my "mocha" recipe, I have to force myself to drink a couple of glasses of Isopure ready-to-drink during the day to "catch up" on protein. Doing this has enabled me to keep pretty steady at 60-70 grams per day!
