Intro
I had posted this in the RnY forum...but thought I would post it here too now that I "found" the mens area....LOL
Hello all.....I have been mostly lurking on here for the last 2 months....
Intro- I am a man, 42 married and living in Central Michigan. I have always been heavy- the last time I was my "ideal" weight was in High School....anyway, though heavy I have "carried" it pretty well.....mostly in the middle, and slowly over the years I creeped up to 285~ I am 5ft 7tall- I was my heaviest this year on Spring Break and was miserable, I felt like a whale on the beach!- so I started working on losing weight....I figured it took 15 years to get this big so I will take a year and take it off! Yeah well my brain and stomach did not seem on the same page...LOL - imagine that! anyway....I lost then gained more then I lost and started losing again....I have been on a pretty steady decrease since June, but at the end of Summer my wife and I went to an informational meeting about WLS - she is also overweight and diabetic- once Dr said that there are great benefits for diabetics she was in.....I had seriously looked at surgery 3 years ago after a close friend had it and went through all the hoops only to loose my insurance before they arpproved it....well now the wife works for the hospital so we have great coverage and approval was a slam dunk with our medical conditions and BMI......so surgery in a month from today!! Wifes is a little over a week from today......
as I started this process I kept saying to myself "I wish"-
here is some of that list- I am sure you all can relate-
I wish-
I could keep up with my kids on a walk
I could walk longer then 10 minutes and not be out of breath
I felt good
I did not have so damn many pills to take for high blood pressure, cholesterol
I could sleep through the night ( I have sleep apmea and HATE my machine- so I do not use it)
I felt better about myself
I could fit into my clothes
I had energy
....and the list goes on.....
so I just wanted to say Hi and thanks for all of your posts- I have really enjoyed reading them.....

Welcome and glad you found the men's room.
Following the protocol after surgery will make a lot of your wishes come true. Don't be afraid to ask questions, I find this forum easier as we are getting input and support from other men.

Welcome...It will be here before you know it...esp for your wife!! Over the years I have seen many couples getting their surgery within months. They do real well (having much of the same foods around). Your wife might hate that you lose the weight more quickly...Just a fact...Men have a larger muscle mass...We can move better so the weight falls off faster for us. Let us know how it goes. Brian
Thanks Guys....
I appreciate the comments...yes wife is only a week from today now.....we are really hoping that going through this together will make it easier on us to succeed......
Today for some reason I have been all nervous and keep thinking about all the bad things that can happen...I know that things will go smoothly and should not worry.....but today has been my worry day....LOL....I am sure it s a phase and tomorrow will be better......
Looking forward to going through this and hitting the losers bench.....

I guess there certainly are many things to be concerned about with RNY surgery. By choosing a good surgeon, having the surgery for the right reasons, following your surgeons diet, and exercising as soon as you can your chances of a speedy and complication free recovery are good.
I was sent home with a script for a liquid pain med and never cracked the seal on it. My post surgery was nearly entirely pain free. I slept in my bed as soon as I was home from the hospital.
Hope things go as well for you.
Today I am 4 weeks post op and have lost 26 lbs. Yahoo!

Hey Fellow Michigander - Welcome! Glad you found this site. There is a TON (bad pun) of experience and good advice here. Keep us posted on you and your wife's progress. Your wish list is great and one I think we all can relate to. Now on the Post-op side, as I look down your list and check off most of the items, once again, I KNOW WLS/RNY was one of the BEST things I've ever done for myself...only wish I would have had it sooner. Good luck and again Welcome!
