How long do we lose weight?
Studies show that the malabsorbtion aspect of the surgery begins to deminish at about 18 months. The physical hunger aspect I have heard can resume around 9 months. But with a healthy lifestyle and exercise there is no reason your loss should stop when these aspects go away. Sure it will be harder just like a normal diet would pre-op, this is why it is crucial to get healthy habits in place early on rather than rely on the surgery and then try to develop healthy habits at the end.

I have a female friend who had RNY 7 years ago. Lost about 100 lbs in year one, then another 40 lbs in the next 6 months. She gained back about 12 pounds but has maintained the approximate 130 pound loss for nearly 6 years now. Men tend to lose faster and may lose a little more. It's a MAN's world and don't forget it!!!
Keep eating right, exercising, and use the "tool" of your pouch wisely.
WLS is not a guarantee. It is only a tool. A very effective tool if used properly. Also remember Men are very good at using tools...ugh ugh ugh!!! (Tim the toolman Taylor) : )

I agree with Paul.
With proper eating and exercise there is no reason you should stop losing.
My surgeon said the "honeymoon" phase only lasts about 6-9 months.
Figures! I am 5 months out, and hit a 6 week stall that broke yesterday.
Luckily, I have achieved my 2nd and final goal of 165 pounds, Down from 265 in the beginning of May. I worked my butt off, so I may have bottomed out a lot faster then someone else.
So the weight is just a number. I am going my how I look and how my clothes fit.

Over the course of my first 9 months, I went from 375 to 237. For the next year I regained up to 30 pounds and was in the mid 260's and maintained that for a few years. The last two years I have been in the mid 250's mostly because I run 100 miles a month. At 5 years out, the eating is still tough. When I slack, it shows.
