Hi all, this is Joe again and i have a question. Thursday night i was having intense side pains and went to the er. Come to find out i have a kidney stone yay lol. My question is, is it 100% certain that it will hurt like a S.O.B. or does some people get lucky and not hurt too much when it passes. I think i got this kidney stone by not drinking enough but will have it tested when it passes. Any help is appreciated

Very sorry to hear about the complication. I gave birth to a kidney stone Thanksgiving weekend in 1995. Worst pain of my life.

The ER doc put me on pain meds and that helped a lot when it passed.

Did your doc send you home after your RNY surgery with pain meds? You might want to check and see if that could be used to take the edge off things with the kidney stone.

Good luck giving birth.

Thanks, i still have my roxicet from surgery and the er dr told me i could use it as needed for this. How long does it take to pass through your system?

I think mine came and went pretty fast. I started feeling the pain slightly on the flight home on Thanksgiving Day. By that afternoon I was in a lot of pain and in the ER that night. I passed it on Saturday morning and was able to catch my flight out on Sunday.

But, if it hadn't passed, there's no way I could travel. Even after passing it, I was exhausted for a couple of days.

I once had someone tell me that when passing a kidney stone was the only time a guy wishes he had a smaller dick.

Joe, Many year ago I had kidney stones. I haven't had one for the past 20 years. Both of mine passed and broke apart when passing. They ware not able to test the stone. From what I remember, there are two typical causes of kidney  stones. One is your diet. Well your diet is changing and will probably mean less of a chance of getting one again. The other cause is anxiety. That is what I think mine was since I got both at times in my life where I had super high anxiety. That may also be your cause considering the surgery and changes you are going through. I wish you luck and hopefully you will be like me and not see one for 20 years. Damn, those things hurt like hell!  -- Tom

I had them 7 times in 2 years and they ALWAYS hurt.  According to Female nurses the 3 top physical pains are Kidney Stones, Gall Bladder andChild Birth.  I have had 2 of the 3 and damn.  One thing to remember is that once you have had them you are more prone to developing them so as hard as it is FLUIDS are going to be a life saver.  You may want to try some of the diet ocean spray drinks mixe like 4 parts water to 1 part juice.

Do they know what caused them>

Good Luck

I go in tomorrow at noon to see a urologist and hopefully what little that has passed through so far will be good enough to test. I am going to definitely up my fluid intake so if that is the problem it wont happen anymore. Thanks

Have you given birth yet to a kidney stone?

Hope things are getting back to normal and this bump in the recovery road is over.
