Decision (Band or VSG)
I too am a RNYer. However, I seriously looked at the band as i did not have so much weight to loose. I chose the RNY due to the high success rate in both sustained weight loss and reversal of Type II Diabetes. It has worked very well for me and I am very happy I had RNY. Good luck on your decision and your pending weight loss.
Dude at your size, you need to consider the DS. I was 6'1'' 492 lbs when I went for my consult. The band is "ok" if you need to lose about 40 to 50 lbs, you might get 100 lbs with the sleeve, but if you need to lose 200 lbs, you need the DS. Besides the fantastic weight loss, you keep the weight off longer then any other WLS. Go to www.dsfacts.com to look up some info, and check out the DS forum.
Ditto...I would not go with the band...Too many ways to cheat. I've heard of Banders sneaking in milkshakes and stuff, just to get that full feeling. The Band is advertised because it is made by a company who profits for selling them...They (and your doctor) may not have your best interest in mind.
Between the two, I would go with the VSG...Yet knowing you'll need to get further surgery in a year or two...To a RNY or DS. If you can get the DS now...I would do it. RNY is more for people who need to lose about 100 pounds or so. It can work for those over 400, but the window of opportunity is usually between 6-12 months for the weightloss...After that, it is hard to maintain the loss or continue to lose. Just my 2 cents...
