Decision (Band or VSG)

Been going back and forth on my decision to have the lap band over VSG.  Everything I've been reading is really making me want to change my mind and do the sleeve.  Just looking for some opinions from people who have had either surgery.

I answered your question on the Sleeve board. But I thought I would also add the following.

In my personal opinion. I don't think the lap band is something you should consider at your BMI. If it was me I would either go with the Sleeve or the DS.

As I mentioned in my other reply. My wife had the lap band and I see what she goes through. The constant food getting stuck. The fills and unfills. To be honest. And I hope she doesn't read this she doesn't follow the rules to be successful with it. I think you have to be a very disciplined person to succeed with the Band.

I have had much success with the sleeve. So I highly recommend it. If you don't succeed there's always the possibility of revising to either the DS or RNY.

Hey Mike, yeah from what I've been reading it looks like I'm leaning toward the sleeve.  Thanks for the information.  How long was it until you were back to your regular activities after the surgery?

I think I was one of the lucky ones. I had zero pain after surgery. Didn't need to use any pain meds when I was released from the hospital.

I took off 5 weeks from work. I had the time and had a very supportive Boss. I felt like I could have went back to work after a week. I have a desk job.

Did you go home the same day after surgery?

Went in the hospital on a Wednesday was out by Saturday. My doc was on the cautious side...He had me stay an extra day for observation as my white blood cell count was borderline towards the high side. He was concerned about a possible infection. Turned out to be nothing.

I've heard of people doing it as an outpatient procedure...but I wouldn't feel comfortable with that.

visit the ds forum and read all the people geting revisions from the band, and the troubles they have had,,,with the sleeve you have the option of finishing the job to a ds, if your dissatisfied..
check DSFACTS.COM  ,  i have a bmi of 35,, they gave me a hard time over the DS,,i perservered, would not have band or rny...
