6 month Surgiversary
Today, October 19, is my 6 months surgiversary. I am at 202 pounds. Down 69 pounds since surgery and down 85 pounds from my high weight of 287 in January 2010.
I am no longer diabetic. I no longer have sleep apnea. I work-out for one hour five days a week and have more energy than I have ever had!
I wear a size 34-36 waist pant (depends on the cut) and a Large shirt. I can get away with a medium, but I have never liked tight clothes.
WLS, my RNY, was one of the BEST things I have ever done! At 53 years old, I only wish I would have done it a long, long time ago.
I thank God for my wonderful supportive wife, an excellent surgeon and WL team (even that pesky NUT and Exercise guy), and the "new" healthier life I now live!

Hey Silver - yes, I've been following your posts. Congrats on your great progress so far. Keep up the great job.
My workouts consist of 30 minutes of Cardio, usually the treadmill, bike, or eliptical machine. I follow that by 30 minutes of strength building, working one day on my arms/upper body, the other on my legs/lower body. I include some ABs work everyday. I go to a Snap Fitness gym. I did the weight machine orientation with one of their trainers and received some great advice and recommendations on what and how to do the machines and exercises.
At one week post-op, be sure to follow your Surgeon's advice regarding exercise. The best, and perhaps only thing you should be doing at 1 week is walking.
Keep up the great work and progress!

Thanks G. My surgeon released me to any activity I feel up to with the exception of a 25 lb. lifting limit for another 3 weeks. I like your exercise program. It is similar to what I have done at Gold's in the past. You're right on the walking also, I've been walking every day since surgery.
Thanks again for your input.

Your very welcome...this is what we are all here for to advise, encourage, and sometimes kick each other's butts (only if needed).
Do follow the lifting limit thing. I had lap gal-bladder surgery when I was 40. I ended up with an umbilical hernia, which I had repaired with my RNY. My WLS Surgeon told me the umbilical hernia was initially caused by lifting too much too soon post op. Then when I gained all the weight, it just compounded it. He told me it takes a good three - four weeks for even the small incisions to heal.
I've also learned after turning 50 its ok to take it a little slower...just keep progressing. That "no pain, no gain" crap is great when your a teen or twenty-something...for us old guys, pain is pain...and I ain't into it.
Keep up the great progress!
