Talk to the pros, Time to come clean
OK, here's my story in a nutshell, am sure Im fking things up, and if I need my ass chewed, have at it.
RNY in Feb, highest weight 330ish, 8 Months later, Im down to 188, Never wanted to get much below 200 as I have a big frame, biggest stress is losing to much now. Got plugged up once early on, and had dumping once, (self induced experiment) Now if I do carbs in any great amount, it really just knocks me unconcious, no **** out cold Carb Crash
Can pretty much eat whatever I want, just not much of it, bowl of soup or chili takes me an hour to get it down, really have no aversions cept tough steak or the thought of bread. Try an push food, just still not interested in it, snack on pistachios all day for the calories, have even resorted to eating a couple hershey chocolate bars in the evening for extra calories. Not sure how much I had bypassed but I am certainly not gaining weight.
Hardly ever take vitimans, have seen 0 ill effects from that, they tested me at 6 mos out and everything looked ok.
Dont exercise much as I dont want to burn the calories, I drink with meals otherwise I would only eat a couple spoonfuls, I actually try and wash things thru while I eat, and usually get bored with it after a while.
I dont know if I am an anomaly or if others have experienced similar stuff. I dont want long term failure, feel like a fool, rest assured I am not complaining, like I told the wife, horrible curse have to eat a chocolate bar to get my calories. I Feel awesome, am down to my weight when I was 21, am hiking with my boys and life is good, just wondering what is about to change that I need to be ready for, Massive hunger return? Skin falling off from no vitimans?
I dont post a lot but I read all the time, cudos to the dedicated that keep this place alive.

From what I have read vitamin defincency can take a while to show but when it does sometimes it is to late especially with B12 and Calcium.
Your hunger won't return for around 12-18 months post op, so you may be playing a very dangerous game with your eating habits now if you are getting to comfotable with them. The malabsorbtion factor will start to self correct at around 18 months as well adding to what may be a dangerous situation.
Exercise well I have become a firm believer in exercise and seeing what it has done for people anywhere from 3-9 years post op.
I think you best bet is to meet with a NUT who is familiar with WLS and the RNY especially as they will be able to help you put a diet in place that will allow you to maintain and correct as needed.
Who is doing your labs? your PCP or your Surgeon?

surgeon did the labs, I am going to try and really start hitting the vitamins, that would be stupid to pay the price for that, as far as the eating habits, I actually dont even like the chocolate, I just do not want to lose anymore weight, Im in baggy 32 pants and medium shirts, little fat on me and just want to stop the loss. Nice thing is that I really like my veggies n "healthy" foods, stick to em as much as possible, just am not getting enough calories in with them so I am "supplimenting em" My labs ie cholesterol, BP and all are coming thru very healthy so I am not concerned. If I spent the rest of my life this way, I would have no complaints, but I know a year out or so, that some things are going to change and I want to be ready for it and be able to adjust as necessary.
Take your fricken vitamins little boy, there is no excuse for being so reckless with your health. I take them as soon as I get up every morning, don't put off until later what you can do right now!
The chocolate probably is being malabsorbed and is not giving you any calories, I do eat about 4 oz of dark chocolate every day, so you are not alone. You need to eat more often and the correct foods. I too will keep losing weight if I don't eat 5-6 meals per day. You should set an eating schedule and follow it, hungry or not. When I was not getting in enough carbs my NUT advised that I drink a couple glasses of milk per day, milk has easy to digest carbs and plenty of protein. Because of surgery I am lactose intolerant so I use Lactaid. The other thing my NUT said was that I was not getting in enough good fats so she suggested I drink whole milk, we need some fats in our system to burn calories correctly but I'm sure the nuts are giving you plenty of good fats.
A meal for me can be a ham and cheese sandwich on whole grain bread, I put about 3oz of ham and 1oz cheese on 1 slice of whole grain bread. If you stay away from the white breads there won't be so much sugar so you should be able to stomach it. I eat Brown-berry Health Nut, it works for me.
As for the washing food through, I did/do that too, the best way I found to do it was for dinner to have my meat in some kind of sauce over rice, like tips and gravy or a thickened stir fry. That way I get the protein and the sauce helps wa**** through the pouch so I can get more in, and the rice just follows the liquid.
I know this kind of jumps around, but maybe some of the things I do can help you too.

Brian - gonna sound like yo mamma, but...you gotta take your vitamins!
You are playing a very dangerous game of Russian Roulette. Remember our bodies are amazing machines. If you aren't getting the right amount of vitamins and minerals, your body will adjust, your metabolism will adjust, and you could end up really F'd up! The effects of vitamin deficiency can take some time to manifest. But, once they do, it is much harder to correct the problems.
Also, with the exercise, you don't want to necessarily burn fat, but build muscle. Again this makes your stronger and generally makes you healthier. Also think about your heart.
Try some higher calorie supplemental drinks, like Ensure or Carnation Instant Breakfast. There are tons of these supplemental drinks out there. Find a few you like and drink them as your mid-am snack. They will also help on the vitamin side.
If your not thinking about food, which for many of us is one of those mind game things post-WLS, set a reminder on your email or cell phone.. When it beeps, drink your supplement.
C'mon...You do KNOW better!!. Good luck and keep us all posted on how you are doing.

In the beginning you will lose weight, in spite of how you're eating....yes, even if you break the rules and eat crap...like chocolate. If you're concerned about continuing to lose simply eat more often, eat more healthy carbs and supplement with more protein shakes...that's what I did. The reason you're not gaining right now is because in your "honeymoon period" (a) you cannot eat the volume you once used to...and (b) your still malabsorbing a considerable % of the calories eaten.
But guess what, that all changes...usually around the 12 to 18 month point...sometimes earlier, sometimes a bit later....and if you haven't learned the habits neccessary for long term weight loss / maintenance (Healthy Eating, Daily exercise), you are going to struggle...and could likely become one of the many *****gain a large percentage or all of their weight back. The fact is, it's easy now...it gets harder! You will probably be able to eat more soon, possibly alot more. Your intestines will begin absorbing 100% of the calories you eat.
Hopefully that scared you, because it should....the good news is that it is not too late to change. You know you've gotta take your vitamins. You know you've gotta eat right. And you MUST, MUST, MUST EXERCISE. So start today....no excuses.

Your playing russian roulette on the vitamin front. B vitamins can drop very quickly without any warning, you can go from feeling fine to having all your organs shutting down one by one. Since the symptoms mimic lots of other diseases, most regular PCPs won't even check for a vitamin deficiency. My advice is get on a good vitamin regime ASAP (go to www.vitalady.com if you don't have a decent vitamin regime). As far as the exercise, from watching RNYers on this forum, you will lose weight and keep it off the first 2 years without doing much, at that point you can out eat the RNY, if you do not exercise and change your eating habits you will start to regain. I've seen RNYers regain all of their weight and have to get revisions to the DS. It's not a pretty picture, revisions are VERY hard on the body.
