1 Week Post-RNY - Bye Bye 20 lbs

I'm one week post-op today and the scales show I'm down 20 lbs. Can't believe the difference.

I'm now on soft foods and my water intake is back up to 64 oz.

Went back to work on Wednesday and was only able to handle 8 hours on a 10 hour shift. But, have been able to do the full shift on Thursday and Friday.

I'm finding that I have significantly more energy than before. A co-worker had the same surgery 2 days before me and she's only able to do 4-5 hours per day. Not sure the difference since we're about the same age, height, and weight.

Can't tell you guys how much I appreciate the support and info on this site. It's amazing. Planning to go shopping for compression shirts in a couple of weeks. Not sure I want to buy anything now when I'm expect a signficant weight loss in the first month.

Great progress for week one!  CONGRATULATIONS!  Yes, the energy thing takes a little time.  I really think that is a function of the Anesthesia, your body has been cut on and is healing, the fact you are eating less, and your body is "eating" itself in the form of using up stored up fat.  While our bodies are amazing machines and works of The Creator, they do take time to heal.  I was back to work in a week, but only did half days my first week.  Came home and took a nap, which is something I never did.

The man/woman thing is interesting too.  All my adult life as my wife and I have battled our weight, I've always lost faster and more than her.  There are several ladies in my office that have had WLS, many before me, and I've lost more than them and seem to have more energy and stamina.

The clothes thing is one of the real mind blowers.  Unless money is no object, do wait awhile before buying new clothes.  You are going to loose so much these next several months and your sizes really are going to change.  I've gone from a size 50 waist down to a 34-36 depending on the cut.  I bought a couple of suits at about 3 months out and just picked them up from the tailor yesterday because I had to have them taken in.  Thrift Shops are a great option.  You can find some decent pants and shirts for cheap.  Consider them "Transition" clothes.  Do buy yourself something new that you like as a reward...but remember, it will become too big soon.

Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your progress!
Eating junk food and CRAP is not a reward...it's a punishment...
it's a DEATH sentence...Reward yourself with Good Health!

Thanks so much for the encourage and suggestions.

I'm very grateful now that I'm a pack rat. I still have levi's, shirts, and suits from my pre-fat days. Just got to get them cleaned and they're ready to go. Don't really plan to do significant shopping until I'm able to maintain at least my goal weight.

There's another male co-worker who had surgery about 6 months ago. My progress and energy is very similar to his experience. We're thinkging that we were just lucky with the way our bodies reacted. On the other hand, our female co-worker has had a few kids and I'm sure that has long-term affects on the body. Perhaps her weight loss is less due to harmone differences.

But, for now, I'm elated with my results and wish I had done this sooner.
