Surgery went well on Wednesday the 13th..     No complications and was suprising little pain or discomfort...

On to the adjusting phase now..     pretty much all liquids still...    Jello screened soups etc...    I am a bit curious though because I am getting almost no feedback from my pouch..    Havnt had even the slightest feeling of hunger since the surgery..   No nasuea anything..   Ive eaten a few times and never felt full..  but I did stop after I felt that I was satisfied..     Ive been measuring my meals out..  so maybe that is why I havnt been having any side effects that tell me if Im close to being full etc...     Another thing thats wierd is..   I dont really have a big yearning to eat.. but of course I know that its vital...  as well as getting teh fluids in...       Hmmm  something else to think about though is that my meals have been very thin.. very watery in consistency so they might be passing through the pouch pretty fast..     Im paying a lot off attemtion to whats happening down there and sometimes I will fill a slight tinge.. then realise that its coming from an incision right above my belly button..    So thats a little low LOL        I did screw up this morning though...     I woke up and went into the kitchen to start my days vitamins and meds..    What I did not know was that I need to eat something to sorta wake my pouch up..   Instead I just took all the horse pills with sips of water and before I knew it..   it felt like they were all sitting in my chest for what seemed like about 2 hours...      Thankfully my hospital called just to check up on me.. and they said to eat something first...    then when its all passed..   break up the pills to small bits and take them gradually with sips of water..    the digestive process will be more responsive LOL

But Im doing suprisenly well..    Feeling so much better than I had anticipated..   I am suspect that over the next few days..   My enegry levels will probably drop as my body heals itself and adjust to a much reduced intake of food...

Anyways.....       The journey has begun...      Ive made it to the other side !!!

Welcome Home and Congratulations!  Everything you are feeling is normal.  Follow what your Dr and Team are telling you.  Yes, try to put a little something in your pouch before the vitamins.  I hated and still hate that "heart attack" feeling if you push the pouch.  Focus on your protein and liquids.  You may feel a few "twinges" of pain from the incisions and inside.  Try to walk a little more each day to build up your strength.

Come back here and keep us updated on your progress.

Good luck, speedy recovery, and Welcome to the Loosers Bench!  Your in great company!

Congratulations. It is normal to not feel hunger or fullness for some time after the surgery. I'm not sure why, but it seems to really cut the desire to eat even for those of us who lived to eat. I still don't get a "full feeling" or perhaps I should say it is a different full feeling.  My nose runs when I have had enough to eat.  The pouch doesn't feel any different, but the nose knows.  I don't know how, but it does.  So, be alert in the next few months as to what your new "full" feeling will be.

Oh yeah..  been keenly observing the way I feel when I eat..     I m starting to think that the full feeling will be easier to recognize when I start eating foods with more consitancy..   Just a while ago.. I started to take my evening dose of vitamins.. (Broken up into little peices this time) and I actually felt a bit of tightness were I think my pouch is..       I think the tightness and soreness of the inscisions might be a little confusing too...      I just really want to do this right..  not stretch anything out as well as not make myself feel uncomfortable..      But I do appreciate the not feeling hungry thing...   whata great tool !!!!   =)

Sounds like your experience was similar to mine Ed. I was sent home with a liquid pain med prescription, that turned out to be a waste of money since I have not opened the bottle. I'm on a full liquid diet until next Tuesday when I will be 1 week post op. I visit my surgeon that day and will progress to Stage 2 foods like cream of wheat, baked potato, cottage cheese, and etc.

Gas has not been much of a problem, felt a little pain from gas in the hospital but kept walking and it is passing easily now.

Good luck to you and let's stay in touch as we go further down the road to a healthier life.

Congrats, You probably won't feel a full feeling until you start eating more solid foods and you pouch start healing enough to send that full sensation to your brain. I take my multivitamin's in a chewable form, alot easier on the pouch. My energy levels are pretty good and i am only alittle over 2 weeks out so i think you'll be fine. Godd luck to you on your journey.

Way to go - you're on the downward side of things now.

I got a pill crusher at the pharmacy and use it for those meds I can't get in chewable or liquid form.

As other mentioned, you probably won't get a full feeling until the nerves start healing. But, the first time I ate cottage cheese I did feel like I had consumed a Thanksgiving dinner. So now, I try to "lighten up" the cottage cheese by putting it in the Magic Bullet blender and adding some protein powder. The pouch seems to like that better.
