Pac 10 and WAC...We feel like Rodney Dangerfield..."We get no respect".
Well, I think it's about time we talk about college football. This is just my thoughts...which could be jaded because of where I live. It seems to me that when a SEC team beats a top SEC team, much of the country will say..."The whole conference is good...best in the country"...
Yet out here in the west (Pac 10 country), when one good team beats another good team they don't get the respect. I don't think Oregon will run the table this year in the Pac 10...Because the conference is so good. UCLA beats Houston and Texas...Then gets creamed by Cal.
One last thing...Big teams are afraid the play alot of the WAC conference. It doesn't make economic sense...The WAC can hardly ever get a home and home with a big school. Just my 2 cents.

USC has owned the PAC 10 for so long that everyone else is an afterthought. The only way to gain respect is for the PAC 10 to win a national championship or beat a big time SEC team in a bowl without it being USC. Oregon won the Rose bowl last year but that doesn't help anything because high schools can beat the BIG 10 teams right now. I am from Ohio so I'm not on the SEC bandwagon but right now that's where it's at. If you took Alabama,Auburn,LSU,Arkansas,Florida,South carolina and moved each one to another conference like the BIG East,Pac10,Wac,ACC,Big10 .... they would all win those conferences.

As a TCU grad, I wish I could shake your hand for saying what needs to be said but no one wants to hear. We would take AWAY games at the big schools (ask Oklahoma about this in 2005) but top teams like Texas have no desire to play TCU or Boise State because if they win, that's what was expected of them but if they lose, no more national championship chance. The BCS and, to a lesser degree, the Big 12 and SEC are set up so the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. They might have all shot themselves in the foot though. I see the PAC-10 as a conference becoming more competitive (the addition of Nebraska and Utah and the great play from Stanford, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State this year.). The Big 12 has Tx, Oklahoma and no one else. The SEC is hanging their hat on LSU now that Alabama lost? Please! These are 2 conferences on the way down and the rest of America is going to be glad when they crash and burn.

The pac 10 took Utah and Missouri. The big 10 took Nebraska. Any of the teams I listed above could win the pac 10 this year. I won't argue that TCU and Boise are good .... just that they have the advantage of not getting beat up all year in a good conference and come into bowl games healthy and under the radar. The pac 10 is better but they will need to beat someone b4 getting more press.

Don't get me wrong...There are some great schools in the SEC. Just thinking they get more credit than they deserve. Does CBS have a contract with the SEC? It seems that we see alot of their games out west here.
I still remember when Cal played a home and home with Tennessee on national TV a few years back. The first game Cal got creamed at Tennessee. The next game, Cal won at home big time. At the end of the game, Cal fans in unison were not screaming "We're # 1 or Roll on you Bears"...It was "Pac 10 Football...Pac 10 Football", for the rest of nation to see.
Well...have to pay some bill and do some work. You SECers chime in. This isn't a BASH SEC DAY or something. Just wish the national media would look a little more west for their guidance. Brian

I went to Rutgers but follow them, Penn State, and Notre Dame. Back in the 70s Rutgers played small colleges such as Ivy League school, Lehigh, and Lafayette. In the 80s they finally started playing schools their own size and lost a lot. They started doing better in the 90s when Greg Schiano became their coach. Thy'de probably get wiped off the field if they played the elite teams. I also like U Miami, Fl State and U of Fla but I don't know why I like the Fla schools.
The SEC teams think that they don't need to play home and home because their conference is so good and they just beat each other. Frankly, they just get scared of playing out of conference against the bigger schools because they would just be embarrassed.
I am in Ohio too and love tOSU Buckeyes! They are one of the only teams that purposely schedules home and home series every year against the bigger schools. They win some and lose some, but at least they have the balls to do it.
The other thing that torques me is that why don't they schedule bowl games up north in the open fields? Trust me, the 'Shoe, the Big House and other stadiums would not have a problem selling out bowl games even in the dead of winter. If the pros can do it with playoff games in the elements, then college should too. Those SEC teams have such an advantage in bowl games because they're practically in their own back yards! Let's see how those speedy, spread offenses run on snow and ice!
BTW, for a lot of years, the SEC was not the power and are just enjoying it now. The balance of power is shifting and other schools (Boise State, Utah, Stanford, etc.) are getting their due.
