My surgeon was very adamant that I had to loose 20 lbs pre-op.  He also cited the reduction of the liver as the main motivation.  I did the  Low Carb, High Protein approach, very similar to the Atkins Induction Diet..  I did the Low Sugar/Low Carb High Protein shakes and salads with meat like previously mentioned.  Two weeks pre-op, my surgeon had a "special" diet of prepared low carb, high protein foods, which also helped.

As for keeping the plumb'n hum'n, I also like Benafiber or the local store brand generic (Walgreens, Meijer, etc.) in the NO SUGAR form.  Even post op, I do 1 tsp each morning in my coffee or tea (Decaf of course).

I also do the Pro-biotic yogurt.  Usually one of the small containers each morning.  I mix it with a scoop of Protein Powder so again I am getting protein and the pro-biotic benefits of the yogurt.

Good luck and I hope and pray all goes well with your surgery!

I was in the same situation, I had to get under 500 lbs do have my surgery. I weighed 565 and lost 72 pounds since January. My nut put me on optifast for a month and half, I dropped 25 pound the first month, but that was without any exercise, and no meat what so ever. The optifast was kind of expensive so I switched to EAS protein shakes. I ate an egg for breakfast, drank 4 8oz protein shakes, through out the day and had one meal that includes meat, and lots vegetables. I used water in 2 of the shakes, and Almond Milk and soy milk in the others. I saved money and had an easy to regiment to follow. I drank about 64 oz water with benefiber mixed in (benefiber help with my constipation). I walk at least an hour every day. My surgery is Dec. 8.

Keep going you will get there.
