I started 440 preop and my nut put me on a Ketonic diet. Hi Protein, low carb. I lost about 55lbs on that pre-op. Actually felt like it was a pretty good diet to follow. I used the following guidelins. at least 100 g of protein, less than 30 g carbs, less than 30 g of fat per day. Plus I walked at least 3 time per week for one half hour.

, I've heard that about constipation before, but I don't have any advice.

Look at more of a good protein powder than the carnation instant breakfasts.  Ditto on the High Protein low carb.  You may want to try and go as close to no carb as you can.  I ate no more than 15 carbs a day for the 4 weeks prior to my surgery.  I was walking up to 4 miles a day and dropped close to 16 pounds in that month.

Any form of physical activity is going to help you both pre and post op.

Great advice on increasing protein.

For constapation I found it is helped by drinking at least 64 oz of WATER each day. When I was really stopped up (pre-surgery). I went to the local Asian market and bought "China Slim Tea". It is a green tea and I have no clue what's in it. But, within 24 hours, I'm filling the toilet bowl.

It is VERY hard to avoid the carbs.. I lost a lot of weight on a low carb diet severla years before surgery, but I was miserable and felt deprived the whole time.. As soon as I started eating carbs again it all came back on..  Surprisingly my diet now (post surgery) is mostly carbs.. but it is soo much easier. For one thing you have such a small pouch that you get full easy and I don't seem to crave the carbs anymore.
In Canada we are all placed on a liver shrinking diet prior to surgery. We have to drink these meal suppliment shakes called Optifast. although I understand that any low carb diet will shrink your liver. Most obese people have very large livers.. and the liver sits over the stomach. they want your liver shrunk so that it's easier to do the surgery. We were warned that if the liver wasn't shrunk enough (by being compliant with the Optifast) they might be forced to do the surgery as "open surgery" instead of laproscopically.  The simplist way to get high protein is to drink protein shakes. Look for shakes that have really high protien 35 grams per serving, and very low sugar.
Other than that.. eggs, lean meats,  etc do the trick.
Constipation seems to be a side effect that a lot of WLS people suffer with. I take a stool softener every day.. (Senekot) but still sometimes get bunged up and have to give myself an enima in order to crap.. This is a weird situation for me.. cause I would crap 3 x a day and had NEVER been constipated in my life..

Stick with it bud,, the rewards are amazing.. I found the early work to be the hardest.. the liquid diets and pureed food stage etc.. but once you get through that  and learn how to work with your new tool (reduced stomach) it is a lot easier..

Use Benefiber. Mix it into what you are drinking. I use it with Crystal Light or my protein shake. It is odorless and tasteless and I never notice it. I started it after surgery but it has made me incredibly regular.

I started at 496 and lost 55 pounds pre op with a fairly simple plan:

Protein shake in milk two times a day, one of those with a salad, and at supper I had 3 ounces of meat and all the vegetables I wanted.

Obviously, the food isn't fried, and the usual no no foods are avoided, but it worked well.
