Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, you'll be a mile from them, and you'll have their shoes.
Had surgery about the same time as you. Never took potassium...but I try and watch it closely...Have my list of potassium rich foods on my desk, posted to the wall, in front of me. I try and eat the color of the rainbow in fruits and vegetables...and get my labs checked at least once a year. Also a lot of different meats and 3 different vitamins...in case one comes up short. Here is a list of potassium rich foods...Hope it helps; Oranges, tomatoes, raisins, spinach, lima beans, bananas, avocado, yogurt, broccoli. Brian
Now the bad part is I was hurt in Afghanistan I was referred to a spine doctor he says my back is one of a 65 year old man took a fall funny part spent 1 1/2 years in Iraq in the Green zone, route Irish and Taji and was never hurt besides a hematoma on my leg from diving into a bunker which they said was going to go away but still discolored 34 years old and looks like I am going to have to apply for Disability and SSI I have to sleep with a heating pad on my left leg and this is after surgery which was supposed to free up the sciatic nerve.

I take a potassium suppliment (3 of the OTC type) but honestly they aren't worth a darn...I just add them out of habit. The reality is that potassium is best gotten out of food, and if you are low, you'll need a prescription horse pill to get it up.
I typically eat 2 bananas a day. Sorry to hear about your back. You should get back on a good vitamin/protein regime as soon as possible. If you don't remember what that was, check with your surgeon, or go to www.vitalady.com for her RNY list.

I take one klor-con 10 meq tablet per day which is my potassium supplement by prescription.
If you are going to file for SSA total disability, include any depression or other mental problems/stress as part of you medical evidence. Oftentimes, SSA will initially deny a disability claim based solely on medical evidence and then allow the claim when evidence of a mental problem is submitted dduring an appeal. I worked for SSA for over 6 years and then for another Fed agency where part of the benefits were based on SSA's disability regs. I haven't worked for the Fed for 18 years, but I'm fairly sure most of the rules have not changed that much.
