post op day 5
What a beautiful morning. Today I feel liberated. Its the first day I feel in control since the bypass. Up early at five. Medicated and settled in by the fire pi****ching the sun come up. Nursing a protein shake.
I read the stories but didn't realize how hard I would need to work on protein. Its funny when a tiny shot can kick my butt.
Appetite is disconnected. I have hunger but its not physical. Let me tell you that is surreal.
I haven't mentioned it to the wife but sex has become a thought now. I didn't think that would happen this early.
Yesterday I took a nap and nightmared about eating solid foods. Very creepy.
Today I started out early to make sure I hit both my protein and fluids goal. Also need to be getting the exercise in. Today we go to visit some relatives. Need to pack a Thermos for that.

Sounds like you are doing great .. and what a fantastic attitude.
I read that a lot of people had NO appetite after surgery and was a little dissappointed when I was still hungry (whether it was head hunger or real hunger) I think part of that was because I'd been drinking my meals for so long (Optifast before surgery, then liquid diet, then pureed etc) that I was just hungry for some real food.
After a couple months I finally got to that magical place that others talked about.. It even got so that , if I was busy I could forget to eat (unheard of prior to surgery). The best part of this surgery for me. (aside from the fact that I can now move easily) is that I've lost my preoccupation with food. I'm generally hungry before meals (not ravenous just hungry) and after eating a small meal (mostly protein) I'm completely satisfied .. until my next meal..
Fluids are still my biggest problem. It was more of a problem in the hot summer months when I'd sweat working outside and could not guzzle down a glass of water. Now I can take 3 swallows of water before I feel my pouch speak to me. I used to drink a lot of diet pop (sorry you call it soda in the states) and water just doesn't go down that easily.
Wishing you continued successs

Crispy - sounds like you are on the road to recovery and joining the "losers club". Glad to hear all is going well for you and that you have such a great attitude.
I think the biggest thing I've learned in this is to take each day as it comes. I know that sounds cliche' but it really is true. I've also learned that it is great to hear everyone else's stories and heed their advice, but each of us is unique and different.
Keep focused on getting your protein and H2O in and take it one step at a time.
That feeling of liberation continues! The first time you go shopping for some new clothes and you've dropped a couple of sizes is really a head rush!
The whole appetite thing is also mind blowing. I never realized how much I thought and was focused on food. Now I have to remind myself to eat and then think about what (i.e. protein) I want to have as I fill up so fast. I've also learned that I want to be very selective about what I eat. As I can only eat a little, I want it to be good, healthy, nutritious, and taste good.
Keep up the great work and great attitude! We are all here with you!

Chrispy ,,, you are doin great....after about 6mos your sleeve will begin to normalize... it took a while for me to get back to coffee and some flat Cokes...Yes they are not recomended for us but.... You will find that white meat chicken is a killer to eat in volume ... Im close to a year out and I still have trouble with chicken..it becomes like a Brillo pad or something... Hang in there you will have a new wardrobe completely by 8mos out...
Glad to hear you are doing so well, and hitting the fluids. It does get easier as time goes on. Somedays I can drink almost non-stop and others I have to fight to get it all in (like today just so busy).
I love not having an appetite, although it can make things worse for m sometimes because I will forget it is time to eat if I am not in my routine, like on weekends. I think well I can just have a protein drink instead.
If sex has become a thought then GO FO IT!!! No need to mention it to your wife just do it . I think I got the urge about 5 days after surgery, and it has only gone up and gotten better.
Best way for exercise in the begining is to just got for a walk.
Keep up the great work.
