Hi all this is Joe and i go in for surgery on the 30Th. I'm very nervous, and excited to finally get this part over with so i can be on my way to a relatively consistent weight loss. I just wish i were closer so i could have my kids come visit me while in the hospital, but i guess its good they wont see me all drugged up and in pain, Also i will pretty much be bye myself the whole time besides during surgery and when i get out. I just ask that anyone that reads this will pray for me, not only for a safe recovery but also for the strength to meet the challenges after wards. This site has always been great and im so thankful for oh and all the people on here. Hopefully i will see you guy's on the loser's bench lol!

Hey Joe...Wishing you well and praying for a quick recovery.  Yeh, it can be scary...surgery and all.  You are what people in the industry call a lightweight.  You are young and a male.  If you follow the doctor's plan you should be under 200 pounds in about 6-7 months!!  I was 282 the day of surgery and hit 190 in 6 months and 10 days.  Men have a larger muscle structure so we can move easier...This helps with the weightloss.  Enjoy the ride.  Brian  PS  Go ahead and ask away on the questions here and on the other forums.

Thanks, it is weird how heavy i am, yet on this journey i am considered a lightweight lol. This site and particularly the men's forum have been helpful to me on this journey. Men only make up a small portion of the wls community and it is great to have others that i can turn to and find support and information i need. Congrats on your success so far, And thank you for the prayer.

Good luck and you will be included in my prayers.

The mens community here is really great.  I was a member of the mens forum before I ever really posted on the others and find the support here to be outstanding.

Sleep while you can in the hospital as it is hard to really plan sleep since they wake you at all hours to check this or that.  Don't rush your recovery do what you feel like you are able to.

Good luck!   A week will be here before you know it.  Remember to:

- force yourself to get up and walk the halls as soon as you get to your room after surgery.  The do so frequently.. you will recover quicker and prevent complications such as blood clots.
- use your incentive spirometry religiously to prevent blood clots
- keep ahead of your sipping protein drinks as soon as you wake up every day... the sooner you get in all 64 oz in a day, the easier it is to relax at the end of the day
- force yourself to walk regularly once you get home (or as I did ... stationary bike)
