Surgery went great
Copied from the RnY forum.
Hello everyone. First posting.
I had my surgery at 9:00AM on Tuesday. The day of surgery seemed like a walk in the park due to the pain pump. I was up and walking by mid afternoon, and except for the wicked dry mouth, I was feeling quite good. My doctor let me chew on ice chips and they were as satisfying as beluga caviar on melba toast.
The first post op day reality set in. I was taken off the pain pump and given an inadaquate amont of Lortab and I was miserable. The nurses were excellent until the final nurse came on shift and made this mistake. Advice. Be very demading about the proper dosage of pain medicine. My nurse decided unilaterally to give me half the dosage, assuming i weighed 200 lbs. After I was discharged late afternoon, I took my proper perscribed dosage and I slept soundly through the night.
Today has been very good. Pain is still evident, but decreasing, and I had my first BM. I went for a 15 minute walk and felt good. I have eaten 2 HMR 800 shakes made with skim milk, and I have been able to sip about 40 oz of cold water by mid afternoon. I am giving myself 2 daily anticlotting shots for 10 days, and they are not a big deal. So far so good. Family members say I look great.
Surgeon experience: Dr. Kevin Krause was amazing. He was very informative and caring.
Hospital experience: Beaumont was in general great, especially on the day of surgery. Two substantial beefs: The nurse who decied to cut my Lortab dose, and the no-show wheelchair when i left. I waited 45 minutes for a wheelchair, and I ended up walking out myself. A nurse who was leaving work saw me and tried to help, but the valet was already fetching my car.
More to come as days progress.
