Did I dump??

Today I picked up a "chili deal" for lunch.. It comes with a bowl of chili, a big bun, coffee and a donut. I figured I'd just give the donut to one of the kids..

I was able to eat the whole bowl of chili and half the bun.. I haven't had bread for so long and it tasted so good that I ate the other half.. Since I was breaking all the rules I also drank my coffee with the meal... THEN  I thought.. ah what the hell I'll have a couple bites of the donut.

I've stayed away from sugar,, so far.. maybe a nibble of a cookie, but for the most part I even use sugar free ketchup to avoid sugar.. I had about 4 bites of the donut and got severe cramps.. Rushed to the bathroom and had explosive diarrhea.

Is this dumping? or was this just caused by over eating? I felt crampy and lethargic all afternoon, but not naseaus. I didn't have any of the sweats, or other severe symptoms that I've read about.

Are there milder versions of dumping? I was sorta figuring that I'd be one of the 20 percent of RNY'ers that don't dump.

Just curious what this reaction was... It's certainly scared me off eating anything sweet again.

I don't know if I would call it "dumping" but more like your pouch got pissed and did not like what you fed it (the doughnut / chili mix), how you fed it (too fast) and the quantity you fed it.

Early out for me certain foods would be "expelled" rather quickly if they pissed off Oscar.  To this day, and as much as I love to eat them so damn the torpedoes, eggs especially if they are runny or undercooked will have me in the loo shortly after I eat them.  Does not happen daily but often enough I have to be aware of the possibility.

Never, and I mean NEVER, trust a fart!!

I've only dumped one time post op.  But there were times when certain foods wouldn't sit well (pork, soft serve ice cream, Chinese food).  Dumping and food poisoning cause the same reaction...could be either.  My one and only dump came on (either or both) a cream soup and some pork.  It may have been too much fat in your system...That's my thought.  Brian

I often had this problem when I first started out but most people said it wasn't dumping.  Within the last couple of years, that attitude has changed.  Now most doctors  agree that this is a form of dumping.

Not sure if it was "dumping" but sounds closer than I'd want to get again.  The "fear" of dumping or just feeling like crap is one heck of a motivator to stay away from things like donuts.

Just the thought of donuts and chili makes me want to run to the BR....Now back in the day (pre-op) wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Good luck
