Good Day to all!!
I am sure this question has been asked.....sorry if it has.....
I am almost 2 years out gastric bypass; down 98 pounds; and since Nov of last year have hit the wall of all walls.....have been floating between 230-235 pounds!! Been at my wits end...went to see nut and she told me i need to eat more!! i was eating 900-1200 calories a day. She said i need to eat at minimum 2000 calories......I do 1 hour of cardio 6 days a week and 3 days a week i add 30 minutes of weights after my cardio........my question is that most people i talk to at the gym said that you need 1 gram of protien per 1 pound of weight...so i need about 230 grams of protien a day??? I remember  the formula of your body weight multiplied by  .37??  Sooooooo who is right?? help help
Also how many carbs?? thanks everybody!!!!

May all your UP'S be in life; and your DOWNS be on the scale!!

I believe the rule is 1 gram protein per kilo (2.2lbs). I am still pre-op, but I am doing 100g protein <30g Carbs, <30g Fat. I'm 5'11". I'm interested in what others are thinking?

I don't have the answer for you, but I do recall seeing a there being a formula for protein requirements on the bags that EAS protein powder comes in.  I'm using a different brand now.  I've found it difficult to get in my required protein just jusing food.  Even if I use low fat mozerella as a snack, I still come up short.  I find the protein powder shakes to be the best source all around for additional protein:  they are cost effective, high in protein, low in carbs ( be sure to use low carb powders), and relatively low in calories.  Arguments may be made for protein bars, but I find them to be too much like having candy;  they may be good for an occasional treat if you can handle them.  Pre-mixed protein drinks are good but tend to be expensive.  You can always put powder in a zip-loc baggie along with your scooper and mix the shake when you are about to have it.  I know that the EAS and Syntrax brands can be mixed with a spoon, i.e., you do not have to use a blender nor shake them up.  There may be other powders that have that trait.  You can get an idea of members's evaluations of various protein products in the Diet and Nurtition Forum.  Note that it is not run like most other forum.  Before purchasing most protein products, I look them up on Netrition.com because it shows what's on the labels of the products.  It's easier for me to look at that info at my convenience rather than to be looking for it in a store.  I do buy most of my protein there, but Sam's Club or Walmart often have better buys.  Netrition.com has a large inventory of a variety of items.

I weigh 194 and get at least 250g a day sometimes 350g. It just depends on how my body feels from my lifting routine. If your body is not responding to the cardio maybe you should try upping the weights and canning some of the cardio. I was running 30-40 miles a week for a while and my body just kind of shut down because I couldn't feed it enough at that kind of calorie burn. I have put muscle on and lost a lot of fat since making the switch. Just my 2 cents.

Isopure powder(in water) - each scoop is 110 cals and 25g of whey protein isolate. I like the powders so I don't get used to "eating" so mu*****ase I ever slow down with the lifting (not planning to but you never know when an overuse injury can happen). I usually have 6-8 scoops a day (1 at a time) in between meals. I have 1 oatmeal protein bar with 50g of carbs and 30g of protein mid day (9g sugar)and snack on a whole grain cereal like cheerios or something to get a few more carbs but thats about it for carbs but I don't really count them. I would guess around 100 a day but I know I use them. I don't count fat at all and don't stay away from it - I only avoid fried foods and anything over 10g of sugar at a time. I also eat a normal size dinner of real food too. Like I said I use more powder because I am just afraid of upping my volume of food but I know I have to get the calories and protein to build muscle back. And if your wondering - no I don't like the taste of the powder but I choke it down because I know I need to.
