Counting your day of surgery how many days before you returned to work full time?

I had surgery on a friday and took the following week off.  I am a software engineer so I don't have a very physical job, but the first couple days were tough.

Men lose the weight faster than women (we have a larger muscle structure)...Just a fact.  The thing is it takes energy to get up, get ready for work, drive to work, work, drive home.  All of these project can drain you.  If you are having an RNY or DS you could be losing 5-10 pounds a week.  You will try and grab for energy but it won't be there (before we could grab that candybar or a high fat snack).  Alot depends on how physical your job is.  I tell people wait about 3 weeks if there is alot of movement...Longer (6 weeks) if there is alot of physical lifting involved.  Another thing I advise...go back to work and do 2 half days...4-5 hours.  See how you handle it.  Then take a couple days off, then head back full time.  Those 1/2 days will give you an idea on what to bring to work and how to organize your food and drink situations.  Brian

Thanks for the replys. My job involves a lot of observing and standing, sometimes for hours. Also travel every week, by car and by plane. I'm away from home at least 3 days each week.

I had my LAP RNY on a friday 6/11 and returned to work full time ( 2 hour lunch breaks the first couple days ) on 6/22. I am a barber and don't use a stool so I consider myself very fortunate. I think it depends on how quickly and frequently you start excersizing post surg. My energy level is what has surprised me the most. I never dreamed I could have this ammount of energy with so little caloric intake.

I had oodles of sick time saved up.

I took off the whole summer off!

And loved every minute of it.

It's not the surgery per se that takes the time to recover. It's the diet and new way of eating.

I was in no rush.

I was discharged on a Sunday, and returned to work on Thursday...so 4 days for me.  Then I had my 2-week follow up with my surgeon and he was pissed LOL  I said to him "well your office is the one that said I could go back to work and stamped your name on the release letter stating I could return to work"  LOL  yeah...I think I got a few of his office staff in trouble that day
