Pre-Op Diet
I was lucky and only had a high protien no carb preop diet, but I can identify with you on how you feel. Post op I had progressed through the pureed food diet and was almost at normal foods when a complication sent me back to pureed foods. I have been on them for 3 weeks now and will be for another 3 weeks.
For me the key to protien drinks is finding one that you like, in my opinion this is one area where you get what you pay for. I am partial to the GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protien, it comes in a number of different flavors and if you get creative you won't get bored. Take a banana protien drink add some SF vanilla pudding (maybe half a teaspoon) and some SF Carmel Syrup and you have a Banana Fosters flavor. Look around the web for Protien drink recipies, and you will find it hard to be bored, I think BariatricEating.com has some.
Also keep the end goal in sight, you aren't just doing this as another short term diet, but rather this is the first step into something that will change your life.
Good Luck

I use sugar free Torani Syrups. Gives me 4 different flavors: strawberry shake, raspberry shake, vanilla shake and chocolate shake.
Some people mix in Crystal Light but that tasted foul to me. Other people use de-caf coffee (cold) to give it a nice flavour.
I use both a blender cup and a magic bullet blender. Each way produces a different texture. So with 4 different flavors and two textures it's doesn't get too boring.
You're on Day 3. It gets better after Day 4. I'm on Day 15 of 21: 20lbs down.
The optifast diet also gives you a great head-start on the new living plan: it takes 28 days to break out of old habits. With 3 weeks on Optifast and 3 weeks post-op diet restriction is a great start to starting out.
My doctor doesn't like people drinking fizzy pop or caffeine post-op, so during this 3 weeks I'm also suffering caffeine withdrawls.

Before the surgery I kept putting things off. I was never good enough. One of the benefits of WLS is that you start to believe in yourself. Check out my blog:
