Lap band or RNY?

Which city are you in? There may be a qualified DS doc near you ..
btw, don't be put off by fears of complications .. I remember an experienced RNY surgeon pointing out on 60 Minutes a few years back that the mortality rate for gastric bypass surgery is now less than that for heart surgery or even back surgery ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

Same response as most of the above...do your research, go to the seminar, talk to the surgeon or surgeons and get their recommendations on what will be best for you. It really is a very personal decision that you, your loved ones, and surgeon need to make. My best option was RNY. Had an excellent recovery, back to work (part time 1/2 days) after 1 week, full time after 2 weeks. Am nearly to my goal after four (4) months, have eliminated most of the co-morbidities like Diabetes, Sleep Apnea, and have significantly impacted my High Blood pressure...RNY was one of the best decisions I've ever made...wish I would have done it in my 30s vs waiting until my 50s.
I would have the DS over again in a second. The reality is that if you have to lose almost 200 lbs to get to a normal weight you are SMO. The DS is the best surgery (not my opinion but in peer reviewed data it is statistically the best) for those that suffer from super morbid obesity.
I lost 300 lbs and except for drinking a protein shake in the morning and popping some vits during the day, don't really have to do anything remarkable to keep the weight off. If you are on these forums long enough, those with the RNY and the band start to fight regain at 2 years out and it can become very tough to win that battle.
