Start weight 308, now at 244 about 5 months postop (vsg).  34 pounds to target.  Upped my intake by about 1000 calories a day and started losing again.  Go figure...

I too have experienced this phenomenom. I first heard this theory when I was going to Weigh****chers.. I thought if I really starved myself,, I'd loose faster.. They told me that when you starve yourself, your body slows your metabolism and saves every morsel of food. Eat more they said.. Eat all that you are allowed.. When I did.. I lost...
Since WLS I find it only works if what I'm eating is protein.. If I eat a lot of extra carbs.. it doesn't seems to work,, but then carbs can be converted and stored as fat much more easily than protein.

Only problem is.. it's way harder to gorge (lol) on protein.. it fills you up.. 3 or 4 bites of steak and I'm full, yet I could eat a whole sleeve of crackers..

It's so counter-intuitive, but it's working!  I too can eat lots of crackers etc, the only protein I can eat a lot of is bacon...here little piggy LOL

if you   are now eating 1,000 cal per day, you are still eating too little.  My wife is on a weight reduction diet for diabetes, and her doc and nutritionist want her to eat 1,400 cal per day.  I lost considerable weight last year while eating 1,600 cal.  You may want to check with your doc to see what you should be eating based on your height and any other mitigating cir****tances.

Thanks.  I'm on about 1600 calories a day, but find it really hard to get in all my protein.  I see the dietician next month so I'll ask her - although she was happy when I was taking in 600 calories a day.

I met with my Nut a couple weeks ago (3 month checkup) and told her that I was worried because some days I'm only eating 500 calories.. She wasn't shocked at all. She said.. That's fine.. 500-900 calories is pretty normal at this stage.  She said when I'm done.. I'll be eating 1000-1200 calories.
I said.. WHAT!!  that's what weigh****chers gives you when they put you on a diet!!
and she said that was all I'd require..
If I stick to protein,, it's hard to get in 1000 calories..

I so agree, protein is very filling, I'm finding it very hard to take in enough calories to maintain the weight loss!

The easiest way to get additional protein is from the protein shakes--you get a relatively high number o grams of protein with few carbs and calories.  Mix with water and you can add sugar free and fat free syrups (DaVinciGoumet or Torani).  I imagine you could mix them with other low cal or no cal beverages.  Another good source of protein is low fat cheese.  I use low fat mozerella string cheese.  I mentioned to my wife that they taste like the Lite Baby Bell cheese and are cheaper.  I've used various protein bars in the past, but they are too much like chocolate candy bars.
as an admitted carb addict, I found myself overeating thm like candy.  I know that manymen have posted about making your own trail mix out of various nuts and seeds ( I can't do that).

I eat Atkins protein bars, but seriously have difficulty with the drinks as they make me chuck!  Cottage cheese with pineapple goes down well but you can have too much of a good thing.  I enjoy almost any cheese and low fat yogurts.  Bacon and fish are my biggest sources of protein.  Just like you I find it hard to leave the carbs alone once I've started!  LOL
