My sister had RNY surgery July 5th
My sister told me a month ago she was havin gastric bypass surgery. She's 52, single and the main caregiver to our 89 year old Dad. When I aske he who would be there to help her she said she had no one. Dina and I made plans and traveled to Buffalo for the week of her surgery and stayed with her that week. She ended upo having a full open surgery, but she has rebounded great. To date she ahs lost about 42 pounds and is walking 1.5 miles a day, 10 feet was a struggle before the surgery.
One thing all my relatives asked me was how I convinced her to have the surgery. I did not convince her, actually I only asked here if she would consider it (about last October) and she said an immediate NO to that.
Well, I'm proud of my little sister for doing something for herself for a change.

That is great that you took the time to travel to be with your sister and support her surgery and first week of recovery. That is what family should do. My question is that I expect to have RNY surgery in about a month or so (waiting for my scheduled date). Like your sister I do not have plans to have anyone stay with me the first week or so. Is it advisable to have someone there to assist you when necessary or are we able to take care of ourselves? I am fairly independent and am used to taking care of things myself and not asking for help. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
