Hitting the weights?
Ok, guys, I'm about 6 weeks out from my RNY.
I have been cleared to start hitting the weights.
I am very scale concious now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know muscle weighs more then fat.
I am thinking, if I have say more then 40 pounds of fat to lose, I imagine I won't put on 40 pounds of muscle. So, should still see a net loss on the scale?
Of course I'm also worried hitting the weights will greatly increase my appetite...as it has in the past.
No more extreme poundages for me by the way. I'm doing light weights and high reps.
Whadda u think?

Toning is good, but as you get more active, you may need more protein, iron, b-12, etc. If you hit fatique barriers, get the protein in first. Burning calories with cardio and some weight training will not stop your weight loss. It may seem to be slowing it according to the scale but what is really happening is your body is transforming; fat stores will be gettign spent, muscles will be toning up and inches will start coming off irregardless of what the scale is telling you. Note your measurements (neck, head, ankles, wrists, arms (biceps), chest, thighs, calves and track them and how your clothes fit in additon to weighing. This is especially true during what we refer to as the (weight-loss) plateaus or stalls. 2,4,6,week periods of weight loss willbe followed by similar periods of little or no weight loss. It can get depressing unless you note the measurements and clothes getting baggy. Those can be some real WOW/FART moments. You are doing good, keep it up!

I would disagree about it slowing the weight loss. I don't think it will have much affect on it. Muscle burns more calories at rest so putting some muscle on will help burn more calories helping you lose fat.
I would however wait a few more weeks to start. You have a lifetime to lift so I would wait a few to get going on it. I ended up with an incisonal hernia ever though I started out very light and easy.
