My boyfriend has lost over 150lbs on his own, his insurance didn't cover WLS. He just had a panniculectomy which was covered. He would like gynecomastia surgery and I was trying to find others who might have had insurance cover this.

His policy is with Aetna, and all they seem to mention is young boys who have the issue and how it should be treated medically, doesn't mention after major weight loss.  The similar type of surgery in women is commonly covered so one would think it should also be covered for men.

I have Lipedema and Lymphedema. I also have a passion for Obesity and Health Insurance Advocacy

That's strange, Sarah (the ins. thing)

Yes, there is evidence that gyneocomast. can cause serious emotional problems for developing boys   .   Maybe the way the ins. co. looks at it is that grown men should be tougher mentally about the problem and not let it (or the  peer ridicule, if any) get to them ..   ?

Is/was your b/f diabetic?   If so, maybe he can get the surgery covered if he does the "usual" thing, i.e. documenting a history of skin rashes, infections, etc. in excess skin folds  ..

Good luck to him ..  !
